'information at a price' quest bug.

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 9:20 pm

i told that eridor guy that the vampires were in bloodcrust or w/e, but they never went to the cave after several days so i finnally decided to just kill all the vampires myself and then show him the vampire dust to make him leave, but i cant get this option. i looked at the bottom of the wiki artical, to find what i did just made the quest completely uncompletable.

is there anyway that i can fix this? i dont want to kill them, the last thing i want is to get thrown in prison. they never leave the city, never even once tried to go to that cave, nothing.

Spoiler
You need vampire dust from a bloodcrust vamipre, not just any vampire when you tell him where they are. They normally leaves for the cave about 1am.

If you dont have the right vampire dust I think your only option is to kill them.
But if you do not want the bounty/infame you can select them in the console and type startcombat player

Even the right dust doesn't help if you spoke to Eridor before killing all the vampires. At that point, it's necessary to kill all the hunters, which means sneak attacks so that they don't raise an alarm, or provocation.

From the wiki:

If you convince the vampire hunters to leave, they actually remain in Skingrad forever, although the Journal states that they have left Skingrad.

The above is likely what happened. You actually advanced the quest and could talk with the Count, but didn't realize it. What does your last Journal entry say.

Also from the wiki:

If you kill the vampires on your own after talking to Eridor about them, you are unable to subsequently convince him to leave without murdering him. To avoid this, wait until you notice the map markers of the hunters in Bloodcrust, and then proceed to either help them, murder them, or let them be killed by the vampires.

* PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

Something to watch out for.

You need vampire dust from a bloodcrust vamipre, not just any vampire when you tell him where they are. They normally leaves for the cave about 1am....

I thin this is false. You do need the vampire dust to convince them that you've already killed the vampires if you take that course of action. However to convince them to go to kill them I don't think you need the dust.

the quest log does not tell me to go see the count, all it says is something like i have to deal with the vampire hunters now. everytime i try the 'information' option with him, all he says is 'you already told me all i need to know'. they outright refuse to go to the cave, they just spend all day standing at various spots in skingrad or the two sisters lodge.

couldn't i just use console commands to force the quest to advance, or make it go backwards so i can do it right?

edit: i just installed this 'unoffical oblivion patch', but it appears to have made no difference in anything, as always i cant get the stupid mod to work.

screw this, i'm not playing this game anymore. it's going in the garbage, and i'm never ever buying anything from bethesda again.

You are making a HUGE mistake . It is one of the best games available and you need to acquire some self discipline, actually that is what is necessary to excel in Oblivion .

the game barely even works. and if a machine breaks, you dont keep it you get new one, preferably of a different brand. the game doesnt work, so i'm getting rid of it. i dont see how this is an issue of 'self-disciplin' or why such would be necesary to play a game.
