Inheritance Cycle

Post » Sun Nov 07, 2010 4:42 pm

Hello fellow fans,

I am currently re-reading the first three Inheritance books (fourth one is coming out on November) and I just decided I am going to create a character resembling and behaving like Eragon Shadeslayer. Of course you are not a true rider without a dragon, so here is my hoping that they add dragonmounts as DLC or something.

Anyone ever read the Inheritance books btw?

Not being able to ride dragons ruins it, or being able to would ruin it?

Being able to would ruin it. It would be a big middle finger in the face of the lore and would just be plain silly. "Ohai you′re killing all of my friends and relatives, you know what that means! I′m going to let you ride me even if I probably am more intelligent than you are and I′m going to help your slaughter everyone else I′ve ever cared about and go against Alduin, my ruler and lord!"

Even if Alduin does not play a role in Skyrim and even if there is a emo dragon that hates all other dragons it would still be pretty silly. Like a crazy human killing other humans while letting a drooling pug ride on his head.

Edit: I see now that you probably meant this as a question to the person but not as a general question honestly asking if it would ruin the game not to be able to ride dragons or not. But I will let my comment stand to get my point of view out.

I dont like those books. I give the guy points for putting the work into them, but I think they're really just a mash-up of every other fantasy story out there already. The writing isn't that spectacular either.

My first question upon seeing the topic title was "What does this have to do with Skyrim?" and I thought you posted it in the wrong board and meant to post it in Community Discussion, I see I was wrong, though. Still, I haven't read any of the Inheritance books, my only experience with the series comes from the bad movie based on it, which I'd imagine isn't a good thing to judge the books on since even fans of the books seem to hate the movie, so I can only surmise that whether I'd like the books or not, they must at least be better than the movie. In any case, since I haven't read them, I naturally have no desire to make a character based on Eragon, and in any case, it's been confirmed that Bethesda won't put dragon riding in, that just doesn't fit with what they want to do with dragons, and to be honest, I sort of agree with that idea. Dragons are supposed to be powerful, magestic beings, it's not my desire to see them degraded to the level of glorified horses. Of course, I have no doubt that if the Creation Kit allows for it, someone WILL make a dragon riding mod, and if it can't do that, then someone will likely find a way to make it work, likely using complex scripting, so if you want to be a proper dragon rider, you'll have to wait for such a mod.

Eragon is probably one of the worst protagonists I've ever come across. He's [censored] in all the wrong ways.
So, no. I will try and imagine Skyrim as being something far away from Paolini's world (which it is) and hope that none of the influences filter through.

I guess the books aren't for everyone. I wanted to get the game on the 360, but I guess I will have to wait till I have the money for a proper pc and then buy it.

I'd rather have purple cows made out of radioactive goo than dragon mounts. <_<

In all seriousness though, Dragon Mounts unless it is like somewhat relevant to the story there shouldn't be any dragon riding, would wreck the game for me, just because of it them being a difficult foe to a ridable ally in an instant.

No thanks to dragon riding, I'm sure when we see these dragons the last thing we will want to do is get on it's back!

Dragon riding again? No thankyou, not no how, never. And that's before we mention closed cities.

I don't think Saphira would approve of you slaughtering her kin. You may not be able to ride Dragons "in the traditional sense" but you will be able to summon one and who knows, you may even be able to control them with magic....I can see Galbatorix being burnt and eaten by Shruikan now.

So...you are making your character an idiot?

And I read the first one and it was painful. Dont need to read it again. I can just watch Star Wars again anytime. There's far better fantasy out there people.

Never cared much for Eragon as a character. I think Roran was a much better one. Something about smashing everyone's face in with a blacksmith's hammer just appeals to me.
