.ini edits?

Post » Wed Jan 13, 2016 7:19 pm

I have a few mods that say that they require editing the Fallout4.ini in order to work. However, I have seen information saying that doing so leads to longer load times. I pulled the edits, but this results in several mods not working. The annoying thing is that if I leave the edits in to make the mods in question work, NMM constantly tells me that I need to undo the edits. Is there some way to make mods like Harnessless Harness work without having to have the edits that make NMM yell at me? Failing that, is there some way to have NMM stop telling me to revert the changes?

Your issue is with Nexus Mod Manager. You might have better results asking on the Nexus forum.

Or at least ask there also.

The edits that you are referring to probably pre-date the last game update. Do the following instead:

You will need to add the following line to the Fallout4Prefs.ini file below the section marked [Launcher]:

bEnableFileSelection=1

You will need to change the following line in Fallout4.ini:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\

Rabbit

NMM is telling me that there needs to be nothing after the =, and all the information I've heard says the same. Apparently the edit you're describing creates longer-than-normal load times.

You're right. swk3000 posted outdated information.

All you need to edit is the Fallout4Custom.ini file. (located in /documents/my games/fallout 4)

Under [Launcher], add/change:

bEnableFileSelection=1

Under [Archive], add/change:

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

sResourceDataDirsFinal=

[edit.]

With that done you're set. And no, this doesn't necessarily lead to longer load times. Whether it does depends on the amount of files FO4 needs to load extra. If you're running a reasonably lightly modded game, the effect shouldn't really be noticeable.

I've tried to do that, but whenever i go to (\documents\my games\fallout 4), the only files that are there are Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini and the saves folder... Any idea what to do? Much appreciated

Just create Fallout4Custom.ini and add the lines.

You could of course just edit/add the lines in Fallout4.ini for the exact same effect. But the issue with that is that the game, an update, a .ini reset, etc, can/will undo the changes you made.

[edit]

Alternatively, there's a cool tool on the Nexus that will allow you to make the changes in the appropriate costum .ini with a GUI. If the appropriate custom .ini doesn't exist it will create it for you. See: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?.

In that tool, on the "Tweaks" tab, click on "Enable Plugins" and "Invalidate Archives".

Be careful with any other functionality though, that tool has a lot of extra powerful features. So don't mess about in it too much unless you know what you're doing.
