No Ink Spots song in the intro movie of Fallout 1

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:39 am

For some reason the Fallout 1 copy I own does not have the Ink Spots song playing in the intro movie. The copy I own is an official English version, and it was distributed by a local games magazine who had made a deal with Interplay (this was like 9 years ago). Anybody have any ideas as to why the Ink Spots song is missing in my Fallout 1 copy?

Is there any sound in the intro at all? Does the narrator speak in the second half? Do you hear the gun shots on the TV News Report showing a Canadian freedom fighter being executed?

Is there any sound in the beginning cinematic after starting a new game?

Is it the Polish CD Action edition? If so, it's a known error in that edition.

Talonfire - I watched the Youtube video showing the standard Fallout 1 intro to make a comparison. The only differences my copy has are that there are no gun shot sounds on the TV News Report, and there is no Ink Spots song. Instead of the Ink Spots song, my copy plays "Radiation Storm"; one of the in-game musical tracks in Fallout 1. This track plays until the TV playing the Mr. Handy commercial switches off, after that Ron Perlman's narration kicks in.

PeterPotamus - No, it's not the Polish CD Action edition. It's just a regular English version, or so it seems to me.

I heard that an edition distributed by a magazine didn't have the original music at the intro but the music from the Glow (iirc) instead.
A copyright issue I guess.
There shouldn't any problems with your copy.

Then as the other two posters suggested it sounds like your copy had the audio track removed from the introduction. It was probably removed from the ending cinematic as well.

Maybe it'd be possible to just manually add the relevant sound file?

Thanks for the all the info people.

PeterPotamus - No, that won't be necessary. The missing intro song isn't really a big deal for me, I just asked out of curiosity. Everything else about the my copy is exactly the same as the other copies.
