An Inn for Seyda Neen

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:41 am

Just wondering if anyone knows of a mod that only adds an inn to Seyda Neen. There are a ton of expansions to Seyda Neen, but I don't want to add that much extra content; just a place where you can rent a bed. I know that there's the little bedroll in the room downstairs of the Census and Excise office, but at least one mod locks that room off completely (LCV, I believe), and one chargen mod removes it all together.

Conversely, if there's really no mod at all that only adds an inn to Seyda Neen... What's the script/GMST (?) I'd need to modify/create to make one myself?

I'm not aware of any, but if you want to I can put one together when I get some free time (as in, later this evening)?

Aisis' http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8905 lets you rent the attic. There are other mods (like Beds 4 Rent) which allow beds to be rented from many other inns. But as you just want Seyda Neen...

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=3408 lets you rent a nice shack for just 60 gold per month. It's great if your character is going to do some Bitter Coast exploration first off...

I would love that, if you were up for it! I'm not really looking for anything fancy at all, just a basic inn with a basic, rent-able bed. Although I'll never turn down extras. :celebration:

@Dragon32: I actually have Beds 4 Rent, but, weirdly, it doesn't affect Seyda Neen. It loads last in my mod list, so I'm pretty sure it's not a conflict. I've never seen the other mod, so I'll take a look when I get a minute.

@Tes96: I have - I actually have it downloaded in my archives - but it has a couple of conflicts with other mods, including Children of Morrowind.

@.krol: Another one I have downloaded, but disabled; again, there are some major conflicts with other mods, not in Seyda Neen, but in some of the other cities.

We have been contemplating this deficiency for the update of LGNPC Seyda Neen (similar to how we made it possible for the player to stay at the Outpost in Ald Velothi with its update). One solution adds a bed to rent from Arrille, but there are issues since the standard publican script for renting beds would require making a change to Arrille. However there are workarounds. Another path considers having one of the local residents take in boarders to make a living. Any thoughts?

What about making whoever's behind the counter upstairs in the Tradehouse the publican? It's like downstairs is the shop, upstairs is the inn.

Hmm, funny I never even thought of it before. Most of the locked shacks in Seydra Neen are easy to break into and they make a great place to stay. That said I think that Magical Trinkets of Tamriel adds a small stone house right outside of Seydra Neen, where the player can learn necromancy and/or stay in as long as they like. Otherwise I'd go with Princess' Homes to Let, it adds lots of much needed accommodation to many of the towns in game and blends in quite well if you're looking to keep the same feel as the original game.

That's a pretty good idea. A lot of mods edit Arrille, not many change the upstairs guy though.

I remember one that had just an inn. with some quirky characters and some quests. It was quite good. And an obscure mod. Unfortunately i lost it. I believe it was called the sleepy guar. or something like that. it was placed just west of the bridge on the north side of town on the outskirts. Does anybody remember that one?

Hmm. What am I missing? What I remember in vanilla MW is that the person behind the bar upstaiirs at Arille is Elona the scout. There's a guy in front of the bar named ???? the Braggart. There's a bard, a battlemage and Hrisskar (sp?) also up there..

I like the idea that someone would offer to rent a bed as a way to make some extra money. That sounds very much in keeping with what the char finds out about Seyda Neen. I don't know how simple it would be to do, but it seems llike Arille (or maybe someone else) in town could refer the char to whoever is offering the bed for rent. For that matter, there's that guy who is unhappy and will leave if you buy his cursed ring. IIRC, he has a locked house there. Seems like a good candidate to rent out a place to sleep and maybe even later on sell the house if the char is interested. Or the house trades hands to someone else who would continue renting it out. IMO, a nice touch would be that the name changes to that of the char if the house can be sold to char :)

As John (JH) points out, the person behind the bar upstairs of Arrille's Tradehouse is a Blade scout and therefore an unlikely publican. I suppose we could create a new NPC to fill that role, but it is already too crowded in that cell. We have plans for Vodunius Nuccius' house already. Since it is illogical that he should have to sell his ring to raise money to cover his travel expenses when he has a house he will no longer reside, we made him a renting tenant. 'His' house will be available for after the player completes Vodunius Nuccius' quest, but I still think we need something for the player in the meantime. I do like the idea of having Arrille direct the player to another NPC that has a bed to rent.

However, for a supposedly Secret Service, none of the known Blades have any sort of cover story so a Blade scout with cover as a publican would be fitting. Assuming you can combine a publican & training.

That makes sense to me. I was figuring, if I ever worked out the scripts to make the mod myself, that I would do something similar; have Elone or Arrille or both direct you to either a full inn outside of town a little ways, or to a person wandering around outside who handles the bed rental, and just put a little "outhouse"-like shack under the porch, in a pinch.

Although it still seems odd to me that a port town with a heavy Imperial presence wouldn't have a proper inn. I mean, where in vanilla Morrowind did all these Imperial agents sleep?

Yo Lyssia, are you using Vality's Bitter Coast tree addon by any chance?

What about using Tolvise Othralen (next to Arrille downstairs) as acting publican? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tolvise_Othralen labels her as only having one unique dialogue (that may not even be unique, not sure,) and her proximity to Arrille would make for a reasonable connection (she cooks, cleans, is in charge of renting bed etc.)

I am not, as a matter of fact. I'm using two other forest-adding mods, but neither of them adds anything to the Seyda Neen area at all.

There is no room where one could sleep tho. The upstairs room is already probably Arrille's. If not he's yet another NPC who has no where to sleep then (along with 3 guards and Darvame by the Silt Strider, 5 people at Arrille's tradehouse, and Socucius + Guard inside the Census Office :P ).

Ah well, I already finished mine, so use whichever you like more or both (or none :P). Didn't put too much work in it tho, it's just an inn that offers bed, no quests or anything.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! :hugs: I'll try it out today and let you know if I find anything. That's a perfect spot for it, too!

I like the name and the sign. ^_^
