[RELz] Insanity's Oblivion Launcher

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:27 am

Just a few minor things to mention.

1. The 2.1 download archive doesn't include the modding tools folders. I downloaded from the nexus this time so I could give it a thumbs up.
2. Would you label your readme's as ISOBL Ver# ReadMe instead of just ReadMe.

Thanks.

Umm.. how about you check the TES4Gecko Paths. It seems you don't have it right.
It should be:

Target type: Application

Target location: system32

Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -Xmx1200m -jar "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Modding Tools\TES4 Gecko\TES4Gecko.jar"

Start In: "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Modding Tools\TES4 Gecko"

Try and clean a mod and you will get about 75% though loading Oblivion.esm and it will then give you a error stating:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
java.lang.String.toCharArray(Unknown Source)
sun.nio.cs.SingleByteDecoder.(Unknown Source)
sun.nio.cs.MS1252$Decoder.(Unknown Source)
sun.nio.cs.MS1252.newDecoder(Unknown Source)
java.lang.StringCoding$StringDecoder.(Unknown Source)
java.lang.StringCoding$StringDecoder.(Unknown Source)
java.lang.StringCoding.decode(Unknown Source)
java.lang.StringCoding.decode(Unknown Source)
java.lang.String.(Unknown Source)
TES4Gecko.PluginRecord.load(PluginRecord.java:1272)
TES4Gecko.PluginGroup.load(PluginGroup.java:752)
TES4Gecko.PluginGroup.load(PluginGroup.java:752)
TES4Gecko.PluginGroup.load(PluginGroup.java:752)
TES4Gecko.PluginGroup.load(PluginGroup.java:752)
TES4Gecko.PluginGroup.load(PluginGroup.java:752)
TES4Gecko.Plugin.load(Plugin.java:1309)
TES4Gecko.CleanTask.run(CleanTask.java:126)

See what I mean?

Thats not a problem caused nor does it have anything to do with ISOBL. I have tested and all the app does is launch TES4 Gecko, it has no effect on how that program performs.

May want to check without using ISOBL before blaming it for something.

I've made a shortcut of the original shortcut and it works. I encountered this making shortcuts for ObjectDock also.

It won't work unless the paths are a certain way.

Just go ahead and try to clean a mod.

TES4 Gecko needs a lot of memory when doing harder tasks, I remember the user having to edit the shortcut to allow for more memory usage. Try editing the path in the ISOBL ini manually to see if it fixes the issue. Not much I can do i'm afraid.

Edit: Strange that ISOBL never saves the path to the INI file, I will need to update the program.

Okay dug around inside ISOBL again and managed to have it now save and use the filepath in the INI file. Which means when you load ISOBL for the first time be sure to save the Settings even if you don't touch them, this way it saves the Gecko path and allows you to fully edit it as you would with the shortcut.

That solves the out of memory error with launching the Gecko using something other than its included shortcut :D

I'm now working on Version 3 of ISOBL, which should fix a couple of issues v2 had but also make things better for the user. I am also taking any suggestions for inclusion into the next version. As I have stated before this is a complete re-build, so I hope to make this a lot better than the last.

Here is a screenshot of the new WIP:

Cool. :) I'd like to have the option to not close down the launcher when launching the game. It would be useful when editing stuff in the CS and checking stuff in game repeatedly.

Yup that option is in :), There is a checkbox for that, if you want the app to close when launcing the likes of Oblivion for example then the app will close. If you don't want that just leave it unchecked.

Well, other than the other suggestions mentioned, I would like one extra button. "Custom"
Configurable in the ini to whatever to accommodate my pet peev program of the day.

Thanks for the news.
Keep up the good work.

I have an un-released app that can launch upto 6 custom settngs, all configurable in the INI. I could incorporate the code into this :)

The one thing I have noted with using this mod, is that I would probably prefer to have TES4: LOD Gen with Wrye Bash, OBMM and BOSS. Instead of with the Misc Tools.
As this is used more with setting the mods and load order (which the above are all used for) and not for "modding" (changing/adjusting the mods themselves.)

Currently I find myself using the "front" tab utilities to; install new mods, create the bashed patch and order them. Then having to switch to the "Modding Tools" just to set the LODs.

I don't see it much of an issue to swap tabs. It does not matter what you do with the app, at some point you'll need to swap tabs to use another feature. I just find having TES4:LODGen with the other tools fits better than having it with OBMM, BOSS ect. Maybe that's just my preference.

Oh it's not an "issue". That is why I never said anything about it earlier ;)
Just a preference thing: One tab for the gamer to set things up, and another for creating/modifying game mods.

Unlike you, I found it "off" (not a problem, difficulty or hassle, just odd) that when adding a mod I would use OBMM, Wrye Bash and BOSS on one tab, but had to change to a different tab (otherwise for mod creation) to complete the process. No biggie, just my two cents worth, happy either way. :D

This is one of the most useful tools I've ever used IS, I don't know how I'd manage without it :). One suggestion I thought of today, maybe have a button for Fraps? I use that a lot when playing Oblivion...

I see your point, it just seems odd to me to have it your way :lmao:

Update:

I have added a couple more launch options, those that have been suggested. I have also added another suggestion which is a website launch feature. The app can open/launch 8 of the commonly used websites, like the BGS forums or TES Alliance for example.

A new feature just added is a process log, this will be the area where you can see how ISOBL is doing, if ISOBL has any errors or encounters issues they will be printed in this screen.

I have been using this launcher for over a month. I fired the launcher up today and it seems to have lost track of the location of all of the launchers on the first tab. I have clicked on every button that is not 'greyed out' and get the same 'can not find xxx' error message. I have checked and Wrye Bash, the oblivion launcher, CS and OBSE are all where they are supposed to be.

Weird. I have been using it since it's first release, with no such worries. Have you tried removing it and reinstalling?

By the way InsanitySorrow, any news on the upcoming update, an ETA perhaps?
