Spend a month or two in Disney world in the park. Blending in with thousands of people until I'm old news.

You don't have to be American, just have citizenship.

Up to $1.5 billion as of now. ($930 million if you take cash instead of annuity)

It's enough money to give everybody in the United States $1,000,000 each. of course, I wouldn't give the money all at once, since nobody would go to work and the entire economy would instantly collapse.

Patently false. It's on the powerball website, you can buy a ticket if you are from another country, don't have to have a work vista or anything, you can just be over here on a vacation and buy a ticket.

Please, please tell me you're joking. It's not enough money to give everyone a 1mil, it's barely enough to give everyone $5! 1.5billion is only 1500million. There are 300million people in the U.S. 1500/300=5.

On another note, for those of you unaware, the cash option is NOT what you get. That is the actual jackpot itself, pre-taxes. The Feds take 39.5%(25% up front, the other 14.5% comes out at tax time 2017), and then you have to pay state and or local taxes. Afterwards you are looking at approximately 450million right now. The 1.5billion is what you get if you take the annuity option because they'll invest the 950ishmillion and they expect it to end up generating 600million. Even then you still have to pay taxes on the annuity payments every year, so you'd probably still only end up getting about 650-700million if you're lucky.(All of this is explained on the powerball website for those doubting the veracity of my statement).

So you actually get -less- most likely if you take the annuity? Well that's kind of a rip off. "We know you beat the odds and won, but how about you try beating the odds again!". I'd probably just take the cashout option, save half of it and begin building my life in another country and give one half of the 'separated' cash to friends and the other half to charity or strangers in need.

50% mine

25% my friends

25% ????

I don't think that's what he's saying. Essentially, the Powerball is valued at $950 million right now, as-is. If you win tomorrow and take the cash option, that's what the payout is. However, you still need to pay all the taxes, so you'll end up with somewhere between $400-500 million (assuming the math holds).

If you win tomorrow and take the annuity, the Powerball value is still $950 million, but the expectation is that by the time the annuity is fully paid out, the value will be around $1.5 billion. That said, you'll still need to pay the taxes over the life of the payout, but the final payout will still be larger overall.

In any case, I might get a few tickets for tomorrow's drawing. I was going to get some for this past Saturday (using family birthdays), and when I checked the winning numbers I only had one of them right :sadvaultboy: . That said, I'll might still get a couple of tickets just because of how absurdly high the jackpot is.

I wouldn't take annuity regardless. that's placing a lot of faith that the status quo doesn't change in 20+ years. you can likely make more money investing the lump sum.

not to mention get cancer and die before the 3rd payment, haha. or car wreck, other act of god, etc., hell most of the old people winning don't have 30 years left in them ha.

Annuity payouts would be transferred over to your estate. Your family would get the money.

The way the annuity is structured you get bigger payments towards the end of the term. Probably starting at 20 million and the last payment around 90 million. Obviously, you could earn more by investing the lump sum.

The winner most likely will not be able to be remain anonymous. Not because of invasion of privacy by reporters or other people looking for handouts or worse. Only 4 of the 44 states allow anonymity. The rest have to make large winnings public record.

As for the cash option I obviously know that's before taxes. Still at the amount offered does it really matter anymore?

Oh believe me I wasn't trying to make it sound like it wasn't a lot. I've just seen a lot of people, both on this thread, and on other forums, going around with the mistaken idea that the 950million cash option was after taxes, when in fact it's the actual jackpot. Was just attempting to be helpful and clear up some misconceptions, as I labored underneath the same misconceptions up until a week ago when I took the time to read the powerball website ^^

It's not like you'll be walking around with hundreds of millions in your back pocket. Bill Gates is worth around 80 billion and is still alive and well.

If you were that paranoid then you have enough money to hire your own private army to protect you :P

It's clever trickery they use to lure in more players. Uncle Sam takes a big bite out of your winnings but some states won't. I live in a state that does so my winnings would be roughly 460 million which would be more then I would ever need...I would be happy winning $20 :P

Hey, that's fine, I learned what they meant by cash value now. So the gov'nt don't get their cut all at one time, but take a little first and then the rest later.

I also forgot you have to pay taxes(and a luxury tax) on that money every year, so you'd have to have a way to sustain it.

yeah, yeah, yeah, I know about the actual amount you take home, but I would still afford it because I'll be buying the 76'ers which would make me approximately 47 million per year in profit (and it's a tanking team too lol). I could live on just $20,000.00/year myself.

I also wouldn't be giving money to folks that are already rich.

Lol Really? Maybe a dollar to 5 dollars for each US citizen but not 1,000,000. You would need at least to get past 1 trillion to even think of giving each citizen a million dollars. lol

Anyways i bought the ticket. I am not going to win anyways. lol

$10 million is enough money for me to give each US citizen the finger...with a few notable exceptions.

I'll admit to lotto fever, but approximately 235,102,125 people are actually advlts (over the age of 18), and 236,883 people are already worth $1,000,000.00 or more. DO NOT STOMP MY DREAMS! Though, I have thought about all other kinds of lucrative things too like leaving $500.00 tips at everywhere I eat at, and handing homeless people $100 bills when they ask for change.

I still want to buy the 76'ers. I would buy the Orlando Magic, but they are #1 not for sale, and #2 worth more than 1 billion.

EDIT: Had a thought, I would like to start a game development company. Yeah, that's what I want to do.

Naw, I would start something new and different than pickup a franchise. Unless, Sqeenix will let loose the Legacy of Kain franchise. I would totally give Simon Templeman and Amy Hennig $20 million a piece to be involved.
