[RELz] Insanity's Retexture Releases

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:17 am

The texture it's self is darker, but the lime green colouring comes from the materials and the glow maps. All it should require is model edits to alter the materials so the glow maps no longer work.

? Huh? :lmao: You who were asked by me to make some simple pedestals and to reduce the glow on a statue are actually trying to tell me how to edit an armour texture?

I guess I can try if you could tell me which branch to delete - I'm really good at deleting branches (in Nifskope)!

Actually I was thinking out loud , Anyway I made a few quick edits and looked in-game, the crappy shine is gone and the textures are a little darker, but they're still more lime green than dark green, so the textures would need to be tweaked again for them to be better.

Err....nope :P, I haven't even started , It's not within the scope of the IA mods, so it'd be a seperate one.

Atm I'm working on The Arsenal v3, so I'll add this to my list and get it done later, though if you were to re-colour the glass yourself, I could share mah high-resify "secrets"

You'd have to tell me how to recolour the glass!! Also remember I'm limited to picking a colour and using colour fill to change it :lmao:

Do you use Photoshop?, if so I have the PSDs of the glass armor with the glass and trim split onto seperate layers, all you'd need to do is edit the glass layer with the Hue/Saturation tool and save it :D

Based on the number of color variations of glass armor you can find on tesnexus, I wish I could teach everyone how to adjust hue using GIMP, it's so so simple. Actually, there's plenty of tweaks people could make to textures that only require the most basic of knowledge about editing images, GIMP (or Photoshop) is like a requirement for anyone modding their game.

I just don't have a knack for it! I've tried... Part of it for me is knowing what control or function to use. I've even tried doing Photoshop tutorials. I've pretty much concluded some of us are destined to retexture stuff and some of us are destined to beg the retexturers for stuff  You should see me trying to retouch my digital photos...

I just finished http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Amelion%27s_Debt, you should totally do that armor next!

Actually, I wonder how many unique armor textures there are. You may indeed need God's mercy.

Speaking of unique textures, maybe I'll try your technique on http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10376 for all the vanilla unique shields you find. I wonder if there are any other mods that do the same thing.

I've not shared my technique publicly yet :P, But I will do once the Improved Armoury stuff is done :D

Something andalaybay will be happy about, I've started work on a High Res-ified Dark Glass retexture :lmao:

Add me to the list of people happy about that (even though I could do it myself; too lazy haha). If I'm going to use any piece of green-colored glass armor it will be that. Right now I'm using some crystal glass retexture that is this really light blue color, but I've only got weapons right now. I was thinking of mixing and matching various glass retextures I've downloaded (or recoloring your hi-res ones myself) so that I can be the RAINBOW WARRIOR with a green helmet, red cuirass, blue boots, yellow gloves, etc. It will be so ugly and I'll take a thousand screenshots and it will be the most awesome thing ever.

I can't remember if you've said anything about it yet, but are you planning to do every single armor texture for your Improved Armo(u)ry project? Seeing as how you've already done a number of the more unique pieces it kind of seems like you are, but that's because if I was you it would just nag at me relentlessly if I did one unique piece and not another, it'd have to be COMPLETE! Actually if you wanted you could share your technique with me and I'll sell it to the highest bidder then I can help and speed up the process. I wouldn't even ask for any credit! Then again if I was you I probably wouldn't trust someone to do things 100% correctly, so believe me I'm not offended if it sounds like a bad idea to you!

I've done most of the main sets, just dwarven and steel left IIRC, I've been working on the smaller packs because they don't take as long, plus there is more of them than full sets. I'm problably close to 90% complete armor wise, not sure about weapons, but I think it'd be close to that too. So yeah I'm aiming to finish the lot, not sure when it'll be done though as it's tiring repeating the same processes over a ton of textures :lmao:

Yay. I've been waiting until you're finished to install everything. I wanted to do it all at once to get the biggest impact, but now I'm thinking I'll do the major sets one by one and take before/after comparison screenshots. When I finish doing that I'll get them all together and give you a link to them in case you wanted comparison pictures, because I doubt after the tediousness of doing each armor and then taking screenshots you want to go back and do comparisons shots for everything.

Also, the more I look at your textures the less confident I feel about doing a "QTP3 for armor" heh. Yours may only be a kind of "minor" enhancement compared to what's possible constructing a texture from scratch using hi-res photos or whatever, but I really wonder how much better quality retextures done from scratch would really be. I guess I'll find out when I try the first set of armor, then I'll know for sure if it's really all that necessary. Like, looking at those ridiculous 4096x4096 textures from the Redone series in GIMP or Photoshop may be really impressive compared to a vanilla texture scaled up, but once you're in the game there's kind of a ceiling on quality beyond which it's hard to see any difference. Unless you're playing the game at some crazy high resolution, I guess.

Comparison shots would be good :), I've been occupied making the new releases and haven't got a chance to make some myself.

http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/gallery/image/13720-dark-green-glass/ is done, now onto the weapons.

Haha, I haven't been paying attention, I didn't even notice there were weapon textures too, and I've downloaded every release immediately. Actually this gives me an opportunity to try to collect all the vanilla sets of armor in the game (I guess for some future display when I buy the nicest house), instead of doing it the easy way with the console, then I'll install your textures one at a time and take screenshots. I'm up to level 17 so I can cover most of them immediately if I want though some I'll have to hunt for. Man, this is one of the reasons I love Elder Scrolls games, even ignoring the millions of quests, you can find plenty of opportunities to do your own thing, even it's just some quest to collect armor sets (you should have been collecting anyway). It's almost like it's a ROLE-PLAYING game! :o Maybe it's because I "grew up" on JRPGs and got used to that kind of linear okay you got the best weapon in the game good job style of RPG that playing something more free-form is always like a revelation. Thinking back Morrowind kind of blew my mind. I can see how certain people wouldn't like TES games actually, they're way more about immersion than spectacle. But I digress!

Once all of these are out or a more up-to-date compilation is released, I'll definitely be making a video and posting a blog about these. I'm so glad you took the time to do this; these textures are just what the game needed.
