At what point is completing that quest supposed to piss off the Institute? I want to finish this game for the Minutemen (and then never do settlements again :P), but i'm already at Mass Fusion quest and no one has noticed.

Just wondering if the game bugged, i have a save to fall back to on Molecular Level quest if something didn't work.

Much much much much further.

For once, they don't have Three Dog's omniscience.

Ah, so institute's quests are still considered as the main quest? Once again i was thinking New Vegas, expecting the "third act" to be quests exclusively for your chosen faction
Or double dealing with more than one, that does appear to be possible.

Lots of double dealing here.

In the Railroad questline, you're actually ordered to go undercover with the Institute.

I'm getting real uncomfortable with the Institute quests with this character by now that they want me to destroy the Railroad and BoS, who'd i like to stay neutral towards. I think i'll go back to that old save, steal the data for Minutemen and say "Screw You!" to you-know-who :hehe: A bit of metagaming, but what can you do?

NV didn't really have it that way. most quests in NCR and House questlines were the same and only Legion had a different flavor. Yes-Man just allows you to choose which of these quest to complete, which to ignore and allow you to go with either ending for most of them.

FO4 seems similar: rather than some hard points, you have points at which you piss off a faction. I'd still consider "The Molecular Level" to be the point at which you should make your decision and start ignoring other factions.

Yes, that's true, most were practically the same.
...Actually, all were exactly the same, except visiting the Fort for House.

Ah, The Bunker Hill Battle offered a nice way to end involvement with the Institute. So now i suppose i wait for the Defend the Castle quest to appear?

Actually, you can alert/side with another faction during the Battle of Bunker Hill, and still remain on The Institute's good list as you can lie about what happened. If you had made The Institute hostile, it would have brought up some message saying you had.

To get "Defend The Castle" to appear, you have to talk to Preston, causing "Form Ranks" to start, and after that quest is done, "Defend the Castle" begins.

I didn't betray them, but i made it clear i don't want to continue with them. That got me and completed the Banished from Institute quest, and i got a message stating they are now hostile towards me.

Ok then, go talk to Preston in whatever settlement you left him in.

This will cause "form ranks" to start, and after that is done "defend the castle" will start.
