Inspecting other players

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 9:02 am

There is absolutely no need to see a person't gear to know if he is responsible for the wipe. Maybe because I usually play a healer I'm apt at keeping an eye at everybody but I never had problems with identifying people who play poorly, have poor equipment or both. Inspect functionality has nothing to do it. I'm against it as it would be much better to force people to just ask, like normal persons in normal world.

If they are part of the same guild I've never had a problem. But some random? Pass. It isn't my job to carry someone who hasn't earned their gear yet. It's their guilds job to help them get geared and progress.

And as for pvp if they are in pve greens like my example they not only are under geared but inexperienced as well. Once more it isn't my job to hold some randoms hand and help them through content. Join a guild or work with others of the same gear level to progress

It's no different than someone who is in little league trying out for the majors. Or for a peewee football player trying to be on the starting lineup for the colts.

A week link brings the entire group down period.

I look at gear as the only measure available at a glance to determine if someone should be running with my group. Sort of like a resume.

Do I miss some great players. Sure. Do I miss a lot more baddies. Definitely.

What are you on about?

So I voice my opinion about adding a Inspect feature and suggest they add a "make private" function for those that do not wish to share that information (Which seems to be the majority here) and your responce along with K9mouse is to go play a single player game or "Go back to wow"

How very mature of you both, what are you like 12?

You both are exactly what this community doesn't need, immature people that can't discuss different opinions without slanging insults and bashing people because you disagree with them.

I like inspect and use it myself in groups. I do not kick people in crappy gear though. I normally group as a tank or healer so I like to know the crappy geared players because it effects how I do my roles. I do tend to have the best gear available with all the proper enchants. I do not require others to have the same.

A lot of the jerks are themselves very terrible players who just happen to have great gear. They either buy it from a RMT, ninja it, or leached off others to get it. Then they think they are the best and try to act like it. The main reason they want to kick anyone without great gear is because they themselves still svck so they need others to pick up their slack.

Derps like a previous poster mentioned is completely different than a player who happens to have crappy gear. Derps can not be helped and should be avoided at all cost. Ignore them and I would also advise avoiding that persons guild also. Derps tend to join other Derps guilds.

Some dungeons and Raids require certain level of gear and if a player can not meet the cut off they should not be allowed to join. Most MMOs have progression for a reason.

I would be opposed to a gear inspect tool even if it's an opt-in and not opt-out as most of those things are suggested.

Also for those ranting about not wanting to carry others, easily solution: play only with your buddies.
Not enough buddies online? Too bad, so sad, no whining about having to pick up a random player and kicking them when they don't meet your arbitrary set standards.

See what I did there? I turned the rants backwards, instead of the other players having to find their buddies to play with, do it yourself.

People like you against "private" features in Addons API and you are forcing ZOS to mess with it.

But you want to go little further... again!

BTW you are not a "community" you are a vocal minority.

People like me? Oh boy. Anyway, no , it's not about "like", it's because I believe it is a flawed system that detracts from gameplay quality rather adding to it. Other MMOs have it? So what? Other MMOs may have Harley Davidsons, it doesn't mean I should be able to roam Cyrodil in one (it would be cool for my Ork though ahahaha)

Actually you proved my pout as aptly as yours.

Kicked for bad gear find your buddies and run with them. Upset the group doesn't want to run with you play with only your guild.

Bottom line when two randoms meet for a lfg neither knows if the other is a decent player.

Decent gear is a guide not a set-in-stone garentee but it's like a resume of your accomplishments ingame. If you have nothing but pve greens it's a pretty safe bet you haven't done much high level pvp.

That is my point. There is no reason to be rude when asking someone to drop group. No reason to make fun of them. But there is no reason I as a healer should have to spam heal someone who isn't geared for the instance or for the style of pvp my group runs.

Inspect is a staple of MMOs and is a feature when used correctly is needed.

Absoultely not....elements introduced that inspect/monitor other players is a steep & slippery slope to alienation of other gamers.

If you want to be sure your group has the gear & dps/stats you want from a player.....do what people that use those addons say to people who don't. Join a guild.

By giving a tool to "judge" people solely based on their gear. It encourages the standard behaviour where you are inspected and then deemed worthy or unworthy based on some arbitrary parameters set in people's minds. Gear means nothing if you don't know how to play, some time ago there was a video of Neverwinter Online developers taking on one of the leading PvP guilds. The devs had all the stuff, best, maxed out - guess what? They got completely wasted because they had no experience.

Inspect functionality is just one of the bricks of the invisible walls that get created.

Speak to people ffs, is it that hard?

Well, this is MMO based on gear/stats progression (yeah same as WoW clones), so this is not a bad move.

With mega-server tech? Try it ingame after release.

IMO i would say no simply because its a prelude to "gearscore" which has been shown to not be equal to skill level.

I'm not defending gearscore but some dungeon do require certain level of gear in order to complete it.

However, it is the way people used it that tarnished it uses. People start to use it on normal dungeon that shouldn't even need a gear check.

Having said that, I think the only time i use inspect is when i find a cool item and would like to know the name of it. So inspect isn't really needed for me.

While i agree about gearscore... This is gear based MMORPG, not skill based.

You mean that you are not interested in talking with people even in the most basic way unless they are friends and guildies? Well my friend, I'm sorry to tell you but that's a problem you have honestly and nothing to do with the game mechanics. You know, even when grouping with perfect strangers its usually a good idea to at least say "hello" and "goodbye". Also, "good job" etc also tend to work well .)

Actually the evidence is pointing the other way round at the moment. See how people are discussing builds and soft caps.

So far we havn't seen anything in ESO that require a gear check. Maybe later? but a simple ask should suffice.

Oh, please... What would you say to people with bad gear or role or skills? L2P noob? Because "hello" and GJ is not about gear.
