Inspecting other players

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 3:59 am

Do you reckon they will add the feature to inspect other players, so you can see the equipment and enchantments a player is using?

I'd be happy if the added this feature but give players the option to hide it if they would prefer to keep it private.

I've always liked the fact in other MMO's if I saw someone and I liked the way they looked the possibility to inspect them so I could go out and find the same items etc to make my char look similar etc.

Doubt it. Min/Max players will demand you have it enabled for them to inspect you or you will get kicked from the groups.

I think its already in the game under interacting with the player because that's what you see when one player mouses over another. I didn't see what would happen when interacting but I think another player did it to me commenting on them having way better gear...

I really hope not, that is what drove me out of Rift. Too many people would take it upon themselves to say that your gear was below standard and exclude others.

I hope not. It was optional in Vanguard (setting yourself to private they could not inspect you, but also you did not list in the /who :( )

But then people tell you in raids "OMG YOU SUX LOW DPS"

I hate that.

I hope not, if you need info you can ask which is much better and actually avoids to feed some of people's bad attitudes.

Don't play with those retards who demand to see stats, simple.

There's plenty of us on this forum alone that are quite capable of forming a decent group without all this BS.

I was always fond of this kind of feature, like armoy in WOW or Myddo in DDO. It's a very helpfull feature, but I do understand that people use it for evil purposes.

I am against inspect. I don't know why, but I always have been, even since Everquest. If you like the way something looks, just ask them what it's called, and where they got it. Most people are happy to talk about the things they are proud of. Most will likely tell you anything you want to know about it.

Why don't people like to talk to each other any more?

Still the best option, to hide that info from the start. In their long, it will save a LOT of hurt feelings and one less tool for trolls / jerks to use against a player. If someone wants to know, they can ask me. I know, I go to YOUR house and looking around and tells you how you should keep the house. It happens both in "good" guilds and random pug people.

I really don't care one way or the other about an inspect option. However I have never considered that it is a contributing factor to why people are so quiet in multiplayer games. If that's the case then please keep it out if ESO, I miss the days of player interaction.

Can you be more specific? Go back to WoW, RIFT, SW:TOR or The secret world? :D

You'd probably not want to say that, as the majority of the ESO's potential playerbase is made up of the same MMO players that playe all MMOs, and which are mostly wow players who are just bored with wow. If they all go back to wow, ESO will drop down to 500k subs and go f2p.

Kicking someone from a group who has sub-standard gear isn't evil. In fact I think it's worse for a player who doesn't have the gear to compete tryin to leech off a group of those who do.

Like trying to join a pvp group with people who are tier 2 pvp hear while they only have pve greens.

A weak link brings the entire group down. I don't see the problem with pointing this out and asking them to drop group. Being a jerk about it isn't necessary but neither is getting mad you aren't geared enough to be a part of the group.

I been some in systems only way to get good gear is to do dungeons, can't do dungeons because of lack of good gear. At least, in ESO, one can craft good gear. One should try to help the person who have bad gear or teach the person how to the bosses. In more cases then not, one just kick or made fun of.

Same thing applies, talk to them. If you want to make sure you don't have to group with people in sub-standard gear, ASK THEM. Have them link their gear, and if they won't kick them, but don't expect the game to allow you to make an arbitrary decision about someone you don't know without having to confront them about why. If you want to be a true elitist, then grow a pair, and be brutally honest about it.

I hate derps. Not noobs that try to improve and take advice but pure derps, morons who join groups with horrible builds or good builds but for the wrong role (like tanks joining groups as dps or viceversa), having horrible gear that isn't meant for their class nor even role, etc etc, and they also play like derps, like the above tank that joins as dps, stays in defensive stance or taunts mobs off the actual tank that joined as tank.

And ofcourse when you try to tell them what to do, you hit a wall of silence as the derp probably doesn't even understand english and continues to do his thing. At this point you wonder if he's not really some kind of dungeon farming bot, or some 6 year old playing on his brother's account.

Btw, don't start that whole "privacy" thing. If you're such a...private person, stick to single player games. When you're in a group with other people, they need and deserve to know who is the poor player in the group due to whom the group keeps wiping and why. Perhaps that person can even get some tips about gearing or speccing on the spot, which he can learn and improve himself on the spot instead of not knowing what he does wrong.

This is not about elitism, some "players" in really bad gear just don't care about others. I learned this in SWTOR :prod:

I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to kick people from your group for their gear not being up to par. I'm just saying have the balls to confront them about it instead of depending on the game to tell you what they're wearing so you can dump them without having to face them and tell them why.
