Install besides default?

Curious to why they never gave us a choice as to what drive to install to?!...I out of habit don't install games to the same drive as my OS as it is not as large as my slave and i reserve it for pc applications. And it doesn't have enough space left to install Vegas!...Every other game i play gives me the option to choose the drive to install to, why not this one?So now i have an expensive game that i cant install to play.I sent a report to support but the 24 hour response to it went by 48 hrs ago without a response so i guess it's not an issue to Bethesda...

Well they finally answered and told me to install thru Steam...Which by the way also doesn't give you advanced options to choose install path...After hunting for 2 or so hrs. I finally found the solution.I had to delete all files in my c:/program files(x86)/steam/...except for the steam.exe and steam apps/ folder (do not delete this file as it contains all steam games files that u may currently have including saves so on)...Then i had to copy and paste these files into the drive i wished my games to be installed to (f:\program files\steam\)...Then run steam and it updates itself...Wish i knew that steam will only install games to the drive that it has been installed to...Would have been nice if the support at Bethesda could have clued me in to that little bit of need to know but seemingly unimportant bit of info!..Or Steam for that matter, they could inform us when installing their software that such is the case...Oh well hope this helps someone else!!...

Because steam svcks, to boil it down simply. It believes that everyone should install everything where it believes it should be installed.

However you can use the NTFS symbolic link system to make your own virtual file and folder links. Just google it.

You can use the above link to move your Steam games to wherever you want. It will create all of the links for you with a simple click. I use it to play new games on my SSD and keep everything else on my slower RAID setup.

You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill... simply install the Steam Client to hard drive in which you like games to be installed to. For example D:\Games.

Games with Steam DRM must be in the same directory (steamapps subdirectory) as the Steam Client. Its illogical for Steam to allow installs elsewhere.

If the issue is that Steam defaults to C:\Program Files if not previously installed then manually install the Steam Client before using the Fallout NV installer.
