Installation Help

Post » Sun Sep 27, 2009 1:25 pm

I received FONV yesterday and I am going to install it tonight. I was hoping someone might be able to answer a questions for me.

I am on satellite internet and I have a max daily download of 200mb. After I reach my max, my internet speed really slows down. So, my question is, when I install the game, how big is the file that STEAM is going to try to download?

Thanks in advance.

LOL, thanks for the quick reply, but quit editing your post. Every time I went to reply it was something different.

So, Steam itself will only be a few mb and then it will automatically install from the cd? If so, then i think I will be fine.

Here is the deal. If you follow this method you should be fine.

Get Steam, install it, set up your account, update the Steam Client.

Then, exit out of the Steam Client entirely, infact, you can tell Steam to not start with Windows and then reboot the machine. Make sure Steam is not running after the reboot.

Then put in the DVD and install the game. It will only connect to activate the game and you should be ready to play at that point. If Steam still tries to download the game instead of from the disk, there is a thread from yesterday that tells how to clear out the local content that prevents Steam from looking at the DVD.

Just so you know, if Steam is not running, and you try to Launch a game that uses Steam, Steam will start up for you.
