Installing Daggerfall Freeware for Mac

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 2:53 pm

Ok, I've downloaded DOSBox and the DFInstall. I've heard that you can install this on the Mac, but I'm really not sure how. There are all these sites on how to install the game for Windows, but I don't see any guides on how to Install it on the Mac. Also, I have absolutely no skills at this at all.

Can anyone tell me how I can work DOSBox to install Daggerfall on the Mac? Or if there are any guides to do this, could you please direct me to some of them? Any help would be great!

Try out http://boxer.washboardabs.net/. Personally, I don't like it, but I grew up with DOS and prefer to do everything from the command line. Everyone else who's used it seems to like it.

Everything works fine. You don't need anything different. Try looking http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1014070. I included Mac instructions in the bundle.

OK I tried using your CONFIG -writeconf dosbox.conf but when I type it in the prompt says "Can't open file dosbox.conf"

This is seriously some confusing stuff, what am I supposed to do first? I don't have a dosbox.conf and some installation guides are telling me to extract the zip to a dosgames folder but I don't have that folder. Sorry but I am really not experienced with this kind of stuff.

Read the instructions I gave you. Do those. And when you encounter the need to edit the configuration, make the config file, AFTER installation of Daggerfall.

Read http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1012957, it's written by a guy who use a Mac and thus should be able to help if you have issues. Also, you have to make a dosgames folder yourself, where you want the game to be.

I use a Mac and am currently playing Daggerfall on it. I can help as well.

Ok I think I get it, so I made a dosgames folder and I put DFInstall in the folder. I'll proceed with the steps.

EDIT: Step 3 I seem to be stuck. This will work on PowerPC's right? I'm really not sure if I have C and D drive, but you have to make DOS think that there are C and D drives right? I have found out through the intro that if I do mount c ~/dosgames, dosgames will get mounted.

EDIT AGAIN: Nevermind, I got it! Thanks Mr. Oblivion! :)

Actually, I am also running DFall through dosbox 0.73 on Mac, but I am getting curious about using boxer. Does anyone has a ready made guide to set up DFall on boxer? The capability of creating nicer packages is veeery appealing :)

Okay, I've tried to decipher the various instructions above, but can't seem to make much sense of anything or get it to work (and those downloadable acrobat instructions show as corrupted files, so can't open them either).

so, I need to mount a dosgames folder as a c: drive, but where do I put that folder so that dosbox can find it, and then what exactly is the command to mount that file, because so far everything I've tried still ends with a message from dosbox saying "directory c:\dosgames doesn't exist."

yeah, I'm an idiot. I haven't used anything resembling code or dos since Daggerfall was first released, and I sure don't remember any of it.
