Installing Mods on a Steam copy of the game

I bought the retail copy of Oblivion and put a lot of time into modding it just the way I want. Then I got Oblivion through steam. I am in the process of installing Oblivion (Game of the year edition) and re-installing all my mods on that copy. My question is, since I have both copies on my computer at the same time, is it possible to simply copy the data folder and all its contents from Program files/Bethesda/Oblivion/data whatever to Program files/steam/..../Oblivion/data? Would that work and save me a lot of time. I have Oblivion running exactly how I like it through retail, can I copy it to steam and run the steam copy with my mods that way? Or do I need to manually re-install everything? Are there some things that I cannot copy over and would need to re-install even if others I could copy.

Just a side not, on my retail version I do run FCOM and other mods (quite a lot actually). Are there special circumstances with FCOM in particular that I would need to take into account?

Thank you for your time.

Only things that don't get copied with the data folder are changes to the ini file, though i'd imagine both copies will look for the ini file in the same place, so even that shouldn't be a problem.
