Installing a non-automatic mod to Fallout 2

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:39 am

It's a WinRAR archive, and I've only got experience installing mods in Morrowind (Which is very mod-friendly) How do I install a WinRAR archive mod to FO2? (It's MIB88's megamod 2.34 I think)

For starters, you'll need WinRAR to access the files :P It's just an extraction program. Once you access the RAR you'll be able to access the readme on how to install that specific mod. Most mods will have a self installing .exe file. The process shouldn't be too complicated :)

But you need that .RAR extractor if haven't got one already.

There is... but I'm not sure I fully understand/agree with it. It's saying to delete things in Fallout 2's main directory (!) and replace them with their files... I just don't know if I can bring myself to do it... what if I mess up?

EDIT: I have WinRAR, Chris. Thanks though.

Instead of deleting the files, just move/copy them into any other folder, it doesn't matter where, just so long as they're there. then if anything goes wrong you can copy the files back into your Fallout 2 directory, and everything will be as it should be.

Okay... I got it to work, but when I reinstalled RP to it, it just says FII v1.02 and RP vWhatever, but no MegaMod. Can both work correctly in conjunction?

Does MegaMod add a version tag? They may have compatibility issues. Some mods create separate .exe game launchers, which prevents other mods running in tandem. You might want to get in touch with the people that created the mods, and ask them.

Yeah it had its own exe so I guess it wont work. Oh well. I got RP 1.2 (I think?) and two others, Finesse gun mod and some other gun mod that changes gun and armor stats, and the Bozar into a real sniper rifle. Anyhoo I think I'll be fine without MegaMod... I'd still like to find a mod that makes NPCs drop their armor though... know where I can find JUST that?

Yeah some mods just add data files that the game accesses when you play, but others create a whole new game launcher. There might be ways to incorporate them both, but again that might be a question for the modders themselves.

As for dropping armour: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=167

I've never used that mod but it's the only one I've found so far. It's vote rating isn't amazing, so I don't know what might be wrong with it that it didn't warrant an 8+, but I guess it's better than nothing :P
