Installing Oblivion Vanilla

Post » Thu Aug 05, 2010 11:20 pm

I just reformatted my computer recently, but looking at and reading about the new game coming out makes me want to replay it.

I just want to know what I have to do to make it run the best it can, as I remember there were many problems beforehand when I tried getting it going. I'm hoping a newly reformatted computer will take a lot of the pains I had before out entirely.

1. Should I get the patch right after installing?
2. Should I get the latest version of Direct X?
3. Is there any specific way to install or a directory that I should put the game in?

(Any other notes are also helpful. Thanks in advance!)

Get the official and un-official patches for OB and expansion dlc if you have it. And the un-official supplemental patch. All un-official patches can be found at tesnexus.

Just make sure your directX is up to date enough so it can play OB.

If you use mods get OBMM and boss to sort your load order out. also you might want to get low poly grass and tree replacers as well as OBSE (oblivion script extender) and maybe even streamline to improve performance if you don't have a particularly good pc that can run OB at highest graphics (even then I still use all that and can run at high) also recommended would be OSR (oblivion stutter remover) and OCP (oblivion crash prevention) and maybe even fast exit a lot of people have problems with the game crashing on exiting. All of the latter mentioned require OBSE

I don't have links to all the above at hand but between google and tesnexus you should be able to get all you need.

If you have Windows 7 or Vista install Oblivion outside of C:\Program Files and UAC. I use C:\Games.

...Okay... I didn't understand most of that, but I'll visit tesnexus for more info. Thanks!

Do you know where there is a guide for OBMM and boss? Once I get Oblivion running properly on my machine, I'd like to check out those programs.
