Installing Oblivion on Windows 8

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:28 pm

Every time I try to install it I get the message in the following screenshot: http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/9463/19464595.png

I tried Morrowind and it works fine, but this game just refuses to work. I did not have any programs open and I tried running as admin and set compatibility to xp and 7. I am using the basic vanilla game disc. Nothing is wrong with the pc i have used it to play oblivion when it still had vista.

I'm kind of surprised you need to make any special adjustments (turning on compat settings) to run Oblivion, since it runs on Windows 7. Did you try installing after restarting your computer? It sounds like it's complaining about a setup already running. Did you try turning of auto-run and manually running the "setup.exe" file from the disc? I cannot tell where you are in the setup process by the screen shot. Did you even get to the point where you could specify an installation directory or did the install wizard not even fully launch?

First off, W8 is still in testing. I wouldn't expect everything to work properly. Second, we cannot help with that as W8 is still in testing. It may be a missing dependency, who knows. Again, it's still in testing. As a result, most folks aren't going to take the time to make a 6 year old game run on an OS that's in testing at the current phase.

No I did not get to the directory. I am using the setup.exe. Yes win8 is still in testing but I have seen other people playing Oblivion and Skyrim on it. I can get Morrowind to install just fine and it works great. Oblivion seems to get stuck here. I've tried restarting multiple times, I'm gonna try making a iso with my disc or I am going to copy the directory from my windows 7 machine and paste it on my windows 8.
