Installing MW other than program files?

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:36 pm

If I install MW into my D drive will that save me from having to manually transfer meshes/textures when I install the expansions?

Do I have to name the folder bethesdasoftworks for any mods to work?

Not sure what you're asking about the expansions. They should install completely to whatever drive/folder you specify. No moving of Meshes or Textures required.

You don't need any part of the original path before "Morrowind" But you might want the gamesas part if you intend to install any other gamesas games and keep them together for organizational purposes only.

That's a little odd. Is it displaying any error messages? I've got Morrowind with expansions installed to c:\games\morrowind and there's been no problems. Is it 64bit Vista that you're using?

I never realized Vista was so much different than windows 7 in that respect. So, what you're saying in that when you install either Tribunal or Bloodmoon, Vista *ignores* the textures and meshes folders completely? Wow. Is this, by some chance a non-English version or maybe an old set of discs? Long before I got the GOTY edition, I used three separate discs to install (plus the CS) and never had any such issue with XP, Vista or 7. Very strange.

Anyway, since I've never had the issue, I can't guarantee changing install locations will fix it for you. Whatever you have to do to get the program(s) installed to the default directory, you will have to do if you install it anywhere else.

If you change the install location out of Program files, you do not have to manually move the files. (this is the main reason why you do not use Program files, to avoid this huge hassle)

But I believe you still have to use the C drive.

Actually, I have Morrowind and all the expansions on my E drive, so unless it is something specific to Vista that prevents you from installing anywhere but the C drive, or if that's just to avoid the manual move, you can install to any drive that will hold it.

Thankyou! so if I just make a folder called Morrowind in the C drive alongside program files then everything should install ok?

This is precisely what happens. I regularly uninstall MW and this part is a real pain. I have goty and expansions on a single disc.

I don't think so. As far as I know the only thing that matters is that it's not installed in the program files.
