Installing Skyrim to a USB?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:08 am

Sup skyrim fans.

Having a problem at the moment. My computer is playing up and wont let me install anything unless it is in safe mode. So my question is this if anybody will know.

Would I be able to install skyrim onto my USB drive and then be able to boot it on my main computer though the USB drive?

I've heard about steam validation or something? would this mean we have to run the game through steam constantly or just verify the CD key one time?

You can install it on an USB drive but it's not recommended.

Steam has to be running at all times

This svcks. I may not even be able to play it now if steam is required to run at all times. I cant even install steam on my computer never mind have it open constantly.

you can install games to a harddrive. It may be slow if its less than a 3.0, but my brother does it. he's got a 1TB passport USB drive with 5 or 6 games installed on it.

The USB drive is 15GB.

Would I be able to install it onto the USB drive from my laptop and then take it off the USB drive and put it into my main computer?

Steam is one time activation, you can then set it to offline mode, also the game must install in the steam folder, there are ways around that but I don't have the link

I've had my Steam folder on an external USB drive for years. It's convenient because I can plug it into any random computer and run my games in no time flat. But more importantly, I haven't run into issues yet. It just shouldn't be a slow one of course.

I realise that this is stating the obvious, but, if your pc is in such a state, then you should reinstall your OS and sort it out before you start playing skyrim!!
