Installization Help

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 11:14 pm

I have no clue how to install it. There's no shortcut c:\dosgames as said in tutuorials. In short - I'm clueless. Help?

Also - When I try to install the screensavers and stuff it says it's not a valid Win32 application.

Did you extract the archive to c:\Dosgames? You have to be the one to create that folder.

Well, just follow the http://static.gamesas.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf step-by-step. It will tell you exactly what to do next You just finished with step 4 (extracting the archive to the path C:\Dosgames. Looks like your next steps are to make sure the folders DFCD and DAGGER are in the c:\Dosgames folder. Next, open up Dosbox, type "mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 1000" and hit enter, and then type "mount d c:\dosgames\dfcd -t cdrom -label Daggerfall" and hit enter. Then type "d:" and hit enter. Then type "install" and hit enter.

From there, you should be at step 13 on the guide.
EDIT: Actually, you'll still be on step 12.

Ok, I got it installed but now when I try to play by typing dagger, it says that it looks like I've inserted the wrong cd.

Ah. Then http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1012957 and skip down to #5, and follow all the directions given there from that point on.

Ok, but I can't open .cfg files, so what program do I need to open them?

Go to your start menu, go to "Run" and type Notepad and hit enter (or just open up notepad). Then, outside of notepad, open up the folder c:\dosgames\dagger (where your z.cfg file should be located). Click and drag your z.cfg file on top of the notepad you have open. It should then open it in notepad.

The longer and more ardorous method would be to right-click on z.cfg, choose "open with," and then select something like "choose program from list" and then select notepad.

K, one last dumb question: now that all that's figured out - how do I get it so all I have to do is type dagger?

PS - Thank you ThatOneGuy, I appreciate all your help.

Close out of Dosbox, re-open it, and type the following:

"mount c c:\dosgames -freesize 1000
c:
cd dagger
fall z.cfg"

You'll have to type that each and every time you want to play. If you don't want to type that every time, then you'll have to enter that all into your [AUTOEXEC] section of your Dosbox config file. Instructions on how to do that are contained in #7 of this http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1012957&view=findpost&p=14651383.

Cross your fingers, and... Good luck. :)
EDIT: No problem at all ;)

Hmm. And with that one, I'm stumped. :(

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that we followed the official guide for most of the process, only switching over to Taemos's guide halfway through. I think they're nearly identical until #5, but perhaps there was a step missed. Did you do all the sound-card configuration (steps 14-18 on the official guide) and the 2.13 patch (step 19)?

Someone with stronger dosbox-fu is gonna have to tackle this one, I'm afraid. :(

Use:

c:cd\ Dagger

I highly recommend using the patch. Did you follow the guidelines found http://static.gamesas.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf?
