For me the INT stat always had much more weight than all the other stats. Now it has just as much importance as the rest. I prefer it this way. It'll come down to what type of build I want now and not as essential to be high.

If Intelligence factors in Science related perks like in previous games, Intelligence will be majorly important if you plan on modding and crafting new weapons and armor enhancements.
That could be the Signature Perk/Skill FOR energy weapons in this iteration. That image is a weapon modding gate for energy weapons and makes more sense as science would probably be drawn for a more broad purpose aside from just weaponry.
It all depends on if there's a skill cap or not for me. If there is no level cap, my INT will be an 8 or 9 starting out. If there is a level cap - even a lofty one - then, yay! Int's the new charisma! It'll will be a 1 to 3 in that case. The perks are ok, not really enough to sway me one way or the other.
How is not being able to develop a "genius" master of all skills a bad thing? The INT skill points allowed for players to consistently abuse the skill system (Obsidian attempted to curb the problem in NV, but it was still possible to abuse).
I welcome this change.
I'm hoping they hired a secret voice actor to play the dumb character if you make one. Someone who just had to come in a few days and say things like "duh", "ummm", "me no know", "I like pizza?"
^^ oh yes. Bring back the Fallout & Fallout 2 vibe. New Vegas tried to achieve same thing but they never dwelled deep enough.
I'm guessing come the beginning of November, we will know a lot more about this system and won't be guessing or stabbing at this answers.
I just want to be able to be confident in my character's build from the start.
If you look in the game manual for Fallout 3, at least for ps3... it shows what perks can be gained at which level..... maybe Fallout 4 will do the same, and it'll give you a better understanding of which stats your character will have in the beginning.
I like how someone with an IQ of 50 (INT 1) can yet be the only survivor of the bunker. haha I always get a kick out of that one. He's got to be one lucky bastard or have some smarts. Maybe INT 1 is more like IQ 100. Then every point after is 10 IQ points worth. At least in NV you get shot in the head so an INT of whatever works for the story. But I don't think someone with an IQ of 100 wouldn't sound too mentally challenged. So hard to say!
In http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1529102-skills-perks-revised-edition thread, I have detailed all 10 perks related to the Intelligence stat (as well as a great many perks for all of the other stats).
From the information I have uncovered, Intelligence would appear to be the most valuable stat in the game! There are actually five perks listed under Intelligence that still function as skills, as well as the Educated and Comprehension perks that would then further enhance these skills.
In addition to this, there are three additional perks that would prove to be very useful if we factor in the possibility of hostile androids during gameplay.
It still looks important, but not important to every build. I am going to be playing a stealthy sniper character. I will need intelligence to get gun nut and certain crafting aspects, but most of my points will end up in Perception and Agility. Intelligence was required for ANY build in the previous games because you were just losing points each level if you didn't have it maxed out.
We don't know which slot is the Science perk yet. Without it I don't think you can mod energy weapons or make laser turrets.
That is what I thought to, but there has been some debate on whether that's the Science perk or the Educated perk. 8 is definitely the Robotics perk so the Science perk could easily be as low as 6.
