[RELz] As Intended - Boars & Imps

This is a relatively simple tweak to boars and imps. It was discovered by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch team that there are magic resistance abilities earmarked for boars and imps in the CS... but they were never actually added to the creatures! After some debate, it was decided that this would not be fixed by the UOP. So instead, here's a separate mod which grants the resistances they should have always had!

  • Boars have 25% magic resistance.
  • Imps have 50% magic resistance.
  • Some other minor imp fixes from UOP are included in this mod.
  • Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul imps and boars are supported.
  • Optionally affects only boars, or only imps.

Enjoy!

Okay, looks like it needs to load after FCOM_Knights, and FCOM_Knights needs a Faction tag in order to get maximum benefit and minimum conflict.

It's fully mergeable, so no need to worry about losing a slot.

Boars will be a bit smaller than normal, but that's okay, and you might lose Cobl based meats on the Boars as well.

This will stop being important when a Spells tag is implemented for Wrye Bash.

Jeez, the things are hard enough to kill in the first place... Honestly I think OOO does a perfect job already, and including this will just kind of throw off the balance that's already there. That's just my opinion though.

They're a piece of cake, just walk backwards as you're swinging your sword. They're so slow they can never keep up to you.

You have quite obviously never fought a OOO Gargoyle...

I think they where talking about Imp and Boars in general and not

OOO Gargoyle which are not affected by this Plugin. Has I just checked to be sure.

OOO Mystical Imp should be a little bit harder to take down with this .

After some whining, it was decided that this would not be fixed by the UOP.

Fixed.

Thanks for the mod.

Oh for the love of all that's Oblivion, don't start that here again.

This is someone else's release thread, keep your old arguments out of it.

Hey!

This is lovely!

A question for you - if this includes some of the UOP fixes that's not to say having them both will cause any issues, right? I mean, from a logical steadpoint, it shouldn't, but I know that having the UOP and other bug-fixing mods is generally frowned upon. In this case the changes are the same so I think it's ok.

And another one - do you support all imps and boars or just a finite set? Asking out of curiosity here, not because I've got extra boars hidden somewheres.

Keep up the good work!

I was refering to Boars. I used to dread them until I realized how slow they were. They're not so tough if they can't hit you.

Cool. And that kind of sums up the crappy spring we're having as well. :banghead:

I'll happily include such a version if you supply it. :)

Right. It means this won't un-do those fixes, and they will even exist in the OOO version.

This is done with static edits, not a script; it support all imps and boars of types which already exist in vanilla and/or OOO.

Looking through the OOO Boars and Imps file in preparation for reminding the BOSS team that they missed this one and I noticed something odd.

This file seems to change the editor ID for the vanilla boar "CreatureBoar" to "CreatureBoar0". OOO does add a "CreatureBoar1" through "CreatureBoar9", but it does not rename the original with the zero extension. The same is done to the vanilla "CreatureImp", which becomes "CreatureImp0" by this mod.

Since it seems to have no purpose and could potentially cause a script error, it seems like a mistake/bad edit to me.

So this mod is working out quite, my Imps at least are alot tougher. I haven't noticed it on the Boars that much since I don't usually use alot of magic to take them down, mainly melee while backpedalling.

My copy (1.35b5) does in fact make this change. And yeah, it surprised me too.

Just checked, and this is fixed in the next OOO update. Don't know if you'll want to correct this now or wait for its release.

I don't actually run, I just walk. The fatigue mod I use gives me a 90% chance of stumbling if I run, but there's no penalty for just walking backwards. Boars are very slow creatures.

Haha.. same story with me. I remember being chased from Anvil almost all the way to Skingrad by a big boar. And since I play dead-is-dead I was pissing in terror the whole way. Nowadays I don't even fear them, their melee range and attack animations are even worse than wolves'!

Imps, though, the mystics and the gargoyles are still terrifying. 50% magic resist is an unbearable thought.

Keep in mind a gargoyle already HAS some amount of magic reflect.

I bought the Apotheosis just to take down one of those bastards and I nearly killed myself doing it.

Ouch. :P Haven't actually played with OOO enough to have encountered one yet... I'll take a look at them and see if it's appropriate, but it sounds like maybe not...

I think I kind of like these changes, as easily as boars already rip my PC to shreds in low-level FCOM, not that my PC's spells help to much at low levels anyway (focus on endurance and willpower...)
