Inter-faction Warfare

Post » Thu Aug 20, 2009 8:00 pm

I think something that Oblivion was missing was the ability to try and decimate an opposing faction, in Oblivion you could be the leaders of the DB ,FG, MG, and TG all at the same time which is kind of dumb to me. But if the factions were at war and you were attacking the other faction or were being a double agent amongst two opposing factions to bring it down would be downright awesome. Because with this added feature the decision to join a faction would have huge effects on skyrim itself instead of a single solitary quest line if this feature was implemented you could remove the thieves or mages entirely which would have a huge impact on how people reacted to you what spells/skill training is available to you plus the replayability that this feature would provide is huge maybe if enough people like this idea then maybe bethesda will add this to TESV or any other game they might make

I don't know, I guess it depends on what factions are in the game and what their motivations are.

I voted that only certain factions should be at war with each other.

I'm sure most people will think like you but in oblivion you had very few choices that made a huge impact on the world (besides quest related choices that you have to make) even if they only have a few factions at war it would make me extremely happy

Not a huge struggle for control like in FO NV, that faction war was way too "everywhere" if you know what i'm saying. But the vampire guild should be battling against the vampire hunters, and you can choose one of them, or both if you infiltrate the hunters as a real vampire.

If the Nords are having a civil war, there would most probably be conflicts between different factions. The conflict between the Fighter's Guild and Blackwood Company in Oblivion was quite okay, IMO.

What if you have to choose a kingdom (coz Skyrim is a few different warring kingdoms right?) and then do quests against other kingdoms?

but you didnt get to choose a side you had to side with the fighters guild but the civil war is a good idea... anyway i love biowares games to where your choices impact the world/galaxy and i dont want TESV to turn into that but if your going to allow me to be who i want to be then let me crush the mages guild because i hated their questline in oblivion.

I remember how Daggerfall was supposed to feature a faction system that eventually led to sieges and what-not, that would be great if a little ambitious for Skyrim. At least something like Morrwinds faction system would suffice.

Being able to choose a side would be great! Come to think of it, if I had been able to choose a side in Oblivion, I would have chosen Blackwood Company for the nicer armour and potions to make undead look like rats/goblins.

a bonus with the factions at war is with whichever faction you side with after crushing the other one then you get missions to kill generic named npcs who are from that faction for money and it could randomly increase in difficulty and reward

Given the trailer mentioned what sounded like civil war, yes but not open war between the guilds.
The guilds should have have conflicting interests, like they did in previous elderscrolls, and becoming guild master should be a HUGE deal and a HUGE effort... you should be limited in rank to most other guilds if you become a guild master.

Yeah, just like a couple of factions. Would make the game more interesting.

I chose "certain factions." As a goodie two shoes I'd love to be able to fight the Dark Brotherhood for example, and of course the Dark Brotherhood could target the faction trying to bring it down.

Certain factions should fight with each other, but not all of them.

Well considering that in the trailer for Skyrim it hints that either civil war or some kind of conflict is taking place at the nord heartland... you'd have to assume there is going to be the option to fight other factions and that not all factions will be friendly with each other. I don't want to see some full scale conflict that I can't seem to avoid happening everywhere though (Cough, NV, Cough) but in some cases the underlying 'its war' would be enough for me.

If it is story or quest driven and not limited to random senseless fights between AI, then I'm all for it. Knowing how the Nords value brute strength over magicka, I could totally see mages being sort of outcasts in Skyrim.

Yes, like in Morrowind. The tension between factions was great, but there was also no good vs. bad (in most cases).

Yes, if it fits in with the story. I'd actually like to see this as a sort of dynamic mechanic, with factions changing allegiances depending on the balance of power. That could be pretty difficult to implement, but I live in hope that they'll surprise me.

Well since the Mages Guild is dead, we don't have to worry about them. But the other Imperial sanctioned guilds would probably have conflict with the local factions. I'm for conflict between factions, but maybe not warfare.

I didn't so much think the mages guild is dead as there are two of them that replace the old one?

i used the term warfare because to me conflict means a little tussle here or there instead of a constant state of battle between two factions
