Interaction with your Daedric Summons

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:27 am

This is, of course, predicated on the notion that we will still be able to summon Daedra ( if we cannot, I will be utterly disgusted :swear: ). That said, one thing that annoyed me about my summoned Daedra in Oblivion, was that they were all strangely mute. Even the Daedra who belonged to races I knew to be extremely verbose (Dremora, Aureal, Mazkan), and whom I could speak to in random encounters (even if I had to charm them to do so, as was the case with The Dremora) went oddly silent when summoned. There was an option to speak with them, but they never responded. I am hoping that in Skyrim, if I summon a speaking variety of Daedra, he or she will at least be able to be communicated with in at least a marginal manner. They are some of the most interesting creatures ever encountered in The Elder Scrolls games, and I think it would be wonderful to be able to interact with them on some level.

I think it would definitely bring a level of depth and sophistication to summons. It wouldn't just be a mindless minion that you have at your disposal, but an actual being from another plane of existence that you have summoned. Perhaps, the Daedra should even have the option of helping you, or attacking you. This could play into whether you are a devout follow of daedric tradition or not, among other elements that would make the experience much more in-depth and interesting.

I also advocate for varying archtypes in personalities for the various summoned races.

"Why haven't you summoned me lately? Been seeing that Mazken trollop again?"

:D

LOL! Is it just a given that summoning an Aureal or a Mazkan will automatically lead to very risque Mer/Daedra and Man/Daedra interactions??? I guess it is. Lol.

Anyway, even aside from the "I have summoned you here for lustfull fullfillment, beautiful immortal" aspect of things, I really think it would add alot to be able to interact with these very interesting supernatural beings. Just the dialogue we have from them in Oblivion is very interesting. I would have loved it if, when you were in the presence of Daedra who were either unaware with you or comfortable with you, they spoke to each other in the way that other NPCs in the game did. . . except their conversations would have focused on things relevant to Dremora, Mazkan, Aureal and other Daedra, rather than on whether or not Count Indarys did or did not kill his wife, or whether it was or was not an accident. Though it might have been amusing to hear a Dremora tell another "the Count of Chedinyhal summoned me to kill his wife." Lol. I would really love to hear what the Daedra might have to say to a summoner. I do not doubt that intersting things could be gleaned from them. It would also be interesting to see the different ways in which the different Daedra would react, and what things different races would be inclined to say, from the lofty and arrogant Dremora and Aureal, to the cordial Mazken. So much about them I would love to see revealed!

In lore Daedra were often summoned for counciling, as Guards, or fulfilling pacts, even entire armies. I'd like the same versatility but not in putting a summoning spell in my hand and summoning a blank daedra, I'd fancy following steps to summon unique mallable and powerful daedra to service me provided Im of exceptional skill and power.

If im a noob summoning a Daedroth, wouldn't one expect me to get a claw across the face?

Agreed on pretty much all points. The Daedra, especially those like the Dremora, Aureal, Mazkan and Xivalai, are real and complicated creatures with high intellegence, with emotions, with pride, with history, with, as The Dremora themselves put it "deep thoughts." I would love to see more of that and more of them organically represented in the games.

I think a few unique summons (maybe 2-3) that are the pinnacle of their summoning line, should have unique personalities, and a set of instructions that are customizable (similar to a follower but not able to carry stuff for you).

That would be amazing, I see it being possible with mods on the PC but I'm getting it for the 360 so... sadface.

Liches and possibly wraiths, but zombies don't really talk anyway. A lot of undead are just animated corpses with very little intelligence, though some, like liches, would have memory of prior life and be able to interact. Daedra, on the whole, are far more vibrant, living, thinking beings. . . and they are innately immortal, so they have ages of life experience and learning to reveal.

I also request more interations of Daedra, there are plenty mentioned in Lore that haven't been represented, and its not like we know vast anelects of Daedra's, for instance Vermai? or more interactions with Aurorans? more Daedra's associated with various princes not just Dagon, Malacath, Sheo and Azura. granted not all lords may instantly have an associated Daedra under their rule, but there are 17 Lords..or 16 if COC is dead (the curse is broken, he who was Jygg to Sheo is now Jygg again) essentially what Im saying is, Do what Shiv isles did with Daedra, bring more, and expand on them.

I always tried to make my summons mean something. I miss bob the skeleton...
It would make the summons so much more meaningful. It would be cool if you could summon the same summon each time, so that maybe you could equip them?

Summons do need to be revamped, somehow. They weren't even very useful in combat, for me, unless I raised conjuration far beyond that typical for my current level.

I think it would also be awesome if when you summon them, they'd actually act like companions and stay with you until certain conditions are met (them dying, you having no active quest anymore, etc...)

It would also add a lot of managing if they suddenly turned against you if you ran out of magicka when they were besides you (what's their reason to follow you around if it's not your magic forcing them to (then again I'm not a lore expert, maybe someone could clarify it for me?))

COC? And while Jyggalag is Jyggalag, Sheogorath managed to anchor and find a seperate vessel for himself before the transition, strange as that may sound.

In essence, I agree though. I am in perpetual advocacy for seeing and learning more about the lesser Daedra allowed to Prince Sanguine :celebration: :celebration: :celebration:

I too wish to see more of all the Daedra, and think the games should continually expand upon this in lore and in actual encounters in this game and in all future ES games. Because no matter where you go in Nirn, after all, Oblivion and its Daedric denizens are at all times all around you, and are always just a summons or a ritual away. :obliviongate:

Daedra don't eat your magick to exist, the only time you spend magic is by providing them a Conduit to Nirn, or ripping them from whatever they were doing to do your bidding, (normal summoning) ritual summonings however last longer and do not inhibit the Daedra's strenght

Summoning Daedra is not a difficult proposition, but it is usual an expensive one. Most Mages Guilds have a summoning room, but this is most often reserved for the highest echelon of guildmembers. Witches covens are much less class sensitive, and the Necromancers, the Dark Brotherhood, and many secretive kings and queens of Tamriel have private summoning rooms."

"However, opinions about Daedra worship differ widely in other provinces. Even in Cyrodiil, traditional opinions have changed greatly over the years, and some communities survive which worship Daedra. Some more traditional Daedra-worshippers are motivated by piety and personal conviction; many modern Daedra-worshippers are motivated by a lust for arcane power. In particular, questing heroes of all stripes seek after the fabled Daedric artifacts for their potent combat and magical benefits."

.But you mortals are also potent engines of change and innovation, of desperate and reckless improvisation and industry. Thus do we so prize the fruits of your mundane and arcane engineering. Thus do we bargain and plunder and steal to gain these treasures. We have lived too long, and grow dull and complacent. You live too short, and so are wonderfully sharp and inventive. Does that make sense?"
- Imago Storm

As written, the Daedra cannot be killed, but can only be banished back to Oblivion. In order to banish a Daedra, its mortal body must be destroyed. Sometimes, this is not an option since some of the Daedra are terribly powerful in arcane and martial arts. Some knowledgeable persons learn the existence of protonymic. By using this protonymic, one can banish the Daedra almost "effortless". The incantation of the protonymic drains the vital force from the Daedra, forcing it to follow that force into Oblivion. There one abides until the vital force is replenished. The experience is somewhat anologous to sleep for mortals. However, sleep is a normal experience for mortals. It is not a normal experience for an immortal. Suffice it to say that it is as close to the terror and despair of death as an immortal can come. Naturally the banished Daedra will return to its Daedric Realm, however its personality is somehow changed, as well as its protonymic. Usually the protonymic is extended with neonymic; obviously this means that a Daedra cannot be banished with the same protonymic twice.

An example of a Banishing
Spoiler
Azura: "YES I AM PLEASED"

Nigedo: "Great Azura, Vehk of the Tribunal, known also as the god-king Vivec, has submitted himself to our judgement, according to Dunmer law. We understand that the Hortator Indoril Nerevar required Vehk and the other Tribunes to swear that they would never to use the tools of Kagrenac and that they swore this oath upon your name. We also understand that Vehk then murdered Indoril Nerevar and, foreswearing their oath, the Tribunal used the tools of Kagrenac to make themselves the gods of the Dunmer. Further, we understand that you swore you would cause Nerevar to return and avenge himself against the Tribunal and now your servant, the Nerevarine Incarnate, has destroyed Kagrenac's enchantments upon the Heart of Lorkhan, severing the Tribunal's connection to the source of their power and making them mortal again. For these reasons, because you are intimately tied to these events, and because you have witnessed what is long past as no other has, we hope that you will share your insight by answering some questions we have prepared for you."

Azura: "GIFTS? WRAITHRING SHADOW MONSTER CROWN STAR GOOD QUESTION"

However Vivec halts the preceeding, "Silence. There will be no questions. This is something different now."

Azura: "DEVIL DEVIL MOCK DEVIL DEVIL SPEAK NOT"

Vivec: "Rude spirit, you should never have come. Not here. Not to the world of the liars, where your power is fleshed to law, bound by the bones of the compromise. Shallow changer, [censored]scamp, say you that you rule dusk and dawn? Let me show you the power of the true Dawn, when Gods walked."

Azura: "WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHAT IS THAT I FEEL?"

Vivec: "I am the Thief of this World, with stars, and by my Charges I put you down."

A shadow leaves Vivec, snapping off him to wrap around the Daedric Prince, cracking the air as it stiffens.

Vivec: "With my Charges I put you down. By this Shadow, I call your neonymic forth, your chosen throne, sundown and sunrise, death and birth of shadow. You are bound to this place."

Azura: "WHAT NO DEVIL PLEASE NO NO NO"

Vivec: "How does it feel, Lord Azura? To so fully manifest here is the Mundus, stripped down only to your name? Perhaps it feels a bit like my sister did, when your machinations split her, name from land, nymic eth maliache velot, thoughtless save for domain. AE ALTADOON DUNMERI for my sister's madness I eat you."

Azura: "NO DEVIL NO PLEASE STOP"

Ainroyl steps forward. His eyes are dead. But he smiles anyway.

Vivec: "Do you remember which mortal you bound herein with your jealousy and your spite? She has need of vengeance, too. GHARTOK PAHOME."

Ainoryl explodes. "Milord...serve..." Viscera shower the crowd.

Vivec: "These are my people, Azura. See how they serve? You should have stayed replaced." Vehk nods to Nigedo, his bravest. "Nigedo, curse this heshe-[censored] as she has done our people."

Nigedo: "Lattice-bound creature of the Ever Now, experience for yourself the inexorable progress of the Wheel, know the drumming torment of Time giving way to Time and share in the despair of souls trapped within the Dragon's Boned Cage."

Vivec: "By this Lover, I call your protonymic forth, your secret throne, youth and return, the lover's morning, the loved one's end. You are buried in this place."

A shape unfolds from within Azura's Star and coalesces into a lovely female form.

"And so, the last of those you called "False Gods" seeks his revenge against you, Azura; you, false to me, false to all my people, petty and vengeful spirit, enemy of all my happiness. It is I, Azura, I whom you never thought to see again. You swore in the Halls of Oblivion that no mortal such as I was worthy to be paired with a Prince of the Daedra. You thought, by binding me within this prison of your own invention, to place me forever beyond the reach of one who can transcend the bounds of life and death - my love, my soul - to stop even my rebirth into the world in another form, lest we two find one another again. You have lost and I have won. But what I have suffered at your hands I will not forget, not though I die a thousand deaths and live a thousand lifetimes. It is your turn, Azura, Mother of the Blasted Canker, Stain upon the Night Sky, Prince of nothing but your own envy. May you be cast into outermost darkness and uttermost cold. May you cry out to those who loved you and hear nothing, not even your own voice. Never again show yourself in this fair form to the mortal fools who have been your slaves; and let what is offered to you be carried, steaming and redolent of spices, to my Lord's table. My Lord, my lover who would never have forsaken me, Clavicus Vile!"

Azura: "GAHAAAAA NO NO NO PLEASE NO WHATTTTTTttT NO DEVIL PLEASE NO I CANNOT"

Vivec: "There now. Better. How does one feel when weighted down by their heaviest of mysteries? When one gazes into their soul and sees their own eyes staring back? Perhaps it's how my brother felt, folding into himself like a prism until your darts were thrown, nymic sel sulimet elhnodidan, thought thinking thought. AE ALTADOON DUNMERI for my brother's wasting I eat you."

Azura: "I CANNOT FEEL CANNOT WHAT FEEL CANNOT WHO FEEL THIS WHAT I CANNOT"

In the confusion, some scholars tried to stop Vivec, but Vivec magically silence them. Then Vivec draws forth the antlers, breaking off one of its bloodied tips.

Vivec: "Recognize this? The blood, I mean, not the silly bone-frozen Bosmer. No? It's from one of yours. He died in your name. And so by the blood of this khajiit, I climb you, moon and moon, and Dance on your Tower. AE CHIM CE ALTADOON for my own revenge I eat you. AE CHIM CE ALTADOON for my own revenge I eat you."

Azura: "CHIM? HOW?"

Vivec assembles a spear from the bones of his armor.

Vivec: "Here, this is Muatra. Guess what it represents."

Vivec stuffs Muatra into Azura's mouth. Azura chokes!

Vivec: "YOU ARE BANISHED FROM THIS STARRY HEART"

Azura explodes.

Vivec: "HA HA HA HA HA HA I give my thanks to all assembled, my dumb, deaf dreamers! You've proven a convicing ruse for so long now! I would ask that you bear me no ill will for my use of you, but I am Vivec, born of powers which should have forever been unalike, Vehk and Vehk, murderer of the last and last, anon ALMSIVI, whose name is Alive, and so really do not care! HA HA HA HA HA HA My vengeance on this prophesying harlet has waited an age! I am DONE! Good night, my whirling, my snowskin, my silent doubter! Good night, the dead! Good night, the law! Good night, the madness and the worm! Good night, scholar and sword! Good night all who have spoken or lurked or cast stone! Good night, for Vehk and Vehk shall speak here NO MORE! This was my last gift to all of you, which as they all have ever been, was a gift unto MYSELF! The time of the Empire is come! Good night! Farewell! I am VIVEC."

Halted, Vivec says, "Oh, yes, the ringlet. What was this for, you might wonder. Here:"

Vivec places ringlet in his mouth, and a Voice issues out.

"He was not born a god. His destiny did not lead him to this crime. He chose this path of his own free will. He stole the godhood and murdered the Hortator."

Vivec removes ringlet

Vivec: "VIVEC WROTE THIS"

Vivec vanishes. And then the revenge of Vivec against Azura is finished. Vivec uses his own trial in order to bind and banish the Prince of Dusk and Dawn after what the Prince did to the Chimer/Dunmer and the Tribunal. After this event, the regular gateways to Moonshadow, the realm of Azura, is inaccessible. Whether this has to do with the unlawful incidents at Hogithum Hall in the Capital City or mere whim of Azura herself, no one can say.

Sheogorath
Spoiler
The summoning date of Sheogorath is 2nd of Sun's Dawn, or whenever there is storm in the area where the summoning ritual being performed. In his shrine, Sheogorath may accept summon, if the summoner offered a lesser soul gem, a head of lettuce, and some yarn.

Spoiler
The summoning date of Hircine is 5th of Mid Year. Hircine can also be summoned in his shrine, if the summoner offered a wolf or bear pelt. Hircine always accepts summon from the witches of the Glenmoril Wyrd Coven of High Rock, at anytime

In Black Marsh and southern Morrowind, werecrocodiles stalk the swamps. Black Marsh also shares with the Imperial Province and the wetter parts of Elsweyr the vile presence of werelions. Valenwood's werevultures are not found in any other province. The wereboar has found both the climates of High Rock and Hammerfell amenable. As I mentioned before, the werebear is the most common lycanthrope in Skyrim, and is also found in the northern parts of High Rock, the Imperial Province, and Morrowind. The werewolf can be found in every province. The seventh lycanthrope, which I have never seen but my trusted peers have assured me exists, is a wereshark that roams the oceans around Tamriel

Azura
Spoiler
After lots of discussions, in the appointed day, 21st First Seed, the Council gathers in the Hogithum Hall in the Imperial City and ready to perform the summoning. The air is thick with clouds of incense. Ainoryl begins his incantation. "Hir ylu ghelibrulen, cojet handu alu ma. En sen di toen ambri el. En ense el ambiolis cemn solu neht, solu sequesenhet. Then Azura appears, "AZURA IS COME"

Allerleirauh says, "Gracious Azura, Prince of Moonshadow, Mother of the Rose, Queen of the Night Sky, we who are assembled here seek your wisdom, according to the ancient custom, on this your sacred day, the 21st day of First Seed, called Hogithum. We thank you for favoring us with your presence and we hope that you will indulge us regarding the matter which lies before us now."

Azura: "YES I AM PLEASED"

Nocturnal
Spoiler
As they sang, the glow of the torch began to change. It did not diminish at all, but its color became more and more grey, so it seemed a pulsating wave of ash had fallen on the witches. Then it grew darker still, so that for a moment, though the fire yet burned, it was darkest night in the forest. The penumbra continued until the torch was burning with a color without a name, emptiness beyond mere blackness. It cast a glow, but it was an unnatural scintillation falling on the witches. Their robes of white became black. The Dunmer among them had eyes of green, and ivory white flesh. The Nords appeared black as coal. The crows watching overhead were as pure white as the witches' cloaks.

The Daedra Princess Nocturnal stepped out of the pit of uncolor.

She stood in the center of the circle, the tree of pallid crows her throne, aloof, as the witches continued their chanting, dropping their robes to prostrate themselves naked before their great mistress. Wrapping her night cloak around her, she smiled at their song. It spoke of her mystery, of veiled beauty, of eternal shadows and a divine future when the sun burns no more.

Nocturnal let her cloak slide from her shoulders and was naked. Her witches did not raise their head from the ground, but continued their hymn of darkness.

fluff about a theif trying to sneak up on Noctornal, she succeds but her accomplice ran, she got mad, and the worshipers saw her and warned Noctornal

The witches raised their heads, and screamed, ruining the sanctity of the ceremony, as they charged forward. The crows awoke and burst from the tree in an explosion of feathers and toad-like cries. Nocturnal herself whirled around, affixing the girl with her black eyes.

"Who art thee who dares profane?" The Princess hissed, as the pitch shadows flew from her body enveloping the girl in their lethal chill.

In the last instant before she was swallowed alive by darkness, the girl looked to the ground and saw that the cloak was gone, and she answered, as she understood, "Oh, who am I? I'm the distraction."

Dagon
Spoiler
Who...hey, wait a minute! How are you even here? This is not one of your summoning days!"

And Dagon laughed again, saying, "No sh*t, Herkel, but all that bloodletting and fire at Sarthaal was enough for me [to pierce the veil of the oblivion]! All that whispering into elvish ears sure did the trick!"

Herkel Shield-Fed now looked at Dagon cockeyed and said, "Wait, it was you who sent that horde of elves who, though pierced to their five-thousandth rank, would not be stopped?" to which Dagon responded, "Of course! Though it was easy, as they hated you anyway, but yes, yes, it was I who stoked the fire in grim dreams and mirrors, which has only now saw fit to stop burning! Oh well, now I'm off to enjoy my stay! Who knows how long I have before Alduin notices that I've escaped his trap again?"

But while Dagon had been saying all this, Herkel had broken [the hammer] Olendrung off of frozen Ysgrim's belt. And filled with renewed anger he struck the Lord of Misrule upside the head. Dagon fell over into the snow with a great flumph, unconscious. And Herkel was about to bash the devil's brains out when he thought: "Wait a minute! Killing the kings of [the void] never really lasts forever and I'm not sure if even Olendrung could do more than knock him out! Oh, Dagon will be so mad when he wakes up and destroy even more now! I must find a way to get out of this mess! What can I, a fool as can be determined by recent events, do now to put two and two together?"

Herkel then had an idea and began to drag the frozen bodies of his king and his fighting friends back to the ruins of Sarthaal west and south and west again. He had to carry them in twos for they were stiff as ice and would not bend for easy lifting, so everytime he came back for another pair of them Herkel hefted Olendrung and smacked Dagon back to sleep. Finally, after all of these labors (three hundred and some trips back to Sarthaal), Herkel dragged Dagon to the edge of the ruins. Dagon was still out like a light, so Herkel had time to complete his plan.

He prayed to Alduin the dragon of time, who was the greatest enemy of men, for he ate the world everytime he woke up. But Herkel knew that Dagon was a greater enemy to the dragon, so he put that in his prayer, saying, "Mighty time-eater, I am Herkel the Fool, and I am truly a fool. But I fought bravely at the fall of Sarthaal which lay now at my feet, as does the one responsible for its destruction. I do not ask you to wake up, Alduin, for that would ruin more than Dagon will (and that's a lot now that I keep hitting his head)! And I do not ask you to bring my fighting friends and king back to life, for that is the province of your brother and even I'm not foolish enough to ask all that! And I do not ask you to turn back time, for that is against the laws of all the gods! But I do ask you for a little help, even though...." (And here he kept praying.)

And Dagon woke up with a hideous headache to look down on Sarthaal and look! It was not destroyed at all! There were its mighty sights, its halls, its fountain of voices, and the tusk-house of Jarl the Tongue! And arrayed before it was the Host of Hoary Ysgrim all lined up for war!

"Oh crap!" Dagon said, shaking his hurt, hurt head, "I have come too early, for the destruction of Sarthaal has not occured, for I see the army of King Ysgrim waiting for the elves that I am sending. What could I be thinking, to come before the veils are pierced? Even the laws of trickery would not help me if I did that!"

So Dagon vanished back to his prison [in the void].

is just a hint of how intricate summonings can be.

Thank you Omegax, that is wonderful material. More relevant, perhaps, to my thread about having Bound Daedra in Skyrim, but good material all the same.

It would definitely fit in with lore demonstrated in previous games. I recall in Oblivion, on a quest where you stole the Archmages staff in the Thieves Guild, a Dremora appeared to deliver a note to Hieronymos Lex(I actually freaked out when he appeared because I thought Daedra were invading the waterfront). The Dremora walked up to him, said something, and gave him a note from the Mages Guild. That would mean it would make perfect sense to be able to communicate with your summon, if he can take orders and deliver stuff he can at least talk to you.

Well said. One of the shortcomings of Oblivion was that there were too many things that you should have been able to do, based on what you observed in the game and what other NPCs were able to manage, especially in the area of Daedra interaction, longterm summons etc., but that your PC was entirely incapable of. I hope the Daedra are very much present in Skyrim and that the players options in this field are as expanded as they supposedly are in millworking and sweeping.
