interactive environment is cool and a very interesting thing to implement in the game but one this must be considered. how much ressources do you need to make the environment fully interactive? they need to balance the amount of ressources they put into that like they need to balance anything they want to implement in making a game

sounds complicated and demanding (only thing close to this I've seen is Farcry two) and not the sort of thing you'd find in an RPG.
on the otherhand, sounds awsome. I was a freakin phyromaniac on far cry two, funnest part of the game was burning down a jungle and looting the corpses!

I don't wanna destroy the environment. I just want to see that I can interact with it.
For instance, if I hit a stone with my big badass hammer, I want to see some sort of bruise, etc on the stone. I don't wanna destroy it.

Also, I want to be able to move small things like barrels, crates, small stones, leaves, etc...
I don't wanna destroy it.

Hmm ... a friend of mine .. a modder ... has created a spreading fire effect in real time for fallout 3 .... just like in farcry 2 minus damaged envornment :D ... basically if you would get a scripter , sfx guy and a 3d artist ... you could implement such thing even in oblivion ...
anyway i'm glad that beth listened to my contless complaints about the character animations and finally switched to mocap .. but there are still no sighns of clothsim :(

Aye, destroy smash burn...where's the creativity?

Chopping down trees to barricade a road for an ambush (gads, did I just add in a crafty skill, and they could even make a mini-game out of it with chapping and lining up the fall! )

Digging out a snow bank to make a hide for a bow or spell ambush or recon.

Digging a pit trap

Carving a weak spot in the ice

Pulling branches across a pit trap

Setting up deadfall traps

and on and on....

But, I think it'll happen when monkeys fly out of my butt! (asphinctersayswhat? )

lets think gameplay wise my friend, breaking rocks? no way, it would be to much, maybe some particles when you hit any mountain texture or rock model, but thats it, and about freezing water, not a bad idea, its temporalily of course, it would stay frozen for like 10 segunds, so you can keep spraying ice in your front and walk into the water! but only on tundras, and burning the ground we already saw it is possible, maybe the trees should change their texture and show up a burning or freezing effect, but not be destroyed...

Im pretty sure it wont be first choice and I am also pretty sure that their will be somewhat interactive environments, and if their will be interactive environments whatsoever then I believe that it would be the second choice...

Yeah of course there will be interactive environments. Oblivion had some.
I'm sure Bethesda has improved this since Oblivion. The question is... how much?
We don't know yet, but I hope for pretty much. I want to see that I'm affecting the environment. I don't like the feeling of being in this static world that stays the exact same way no matter what happens.

SHOULD we be able to do all of these things? Yes.

Will we be able to? Probably not.

I voted Yes...
Though i think this pole is like asking people whether they want to win the lottery.

Now I sure want to see plants burn.Easy things to respawn without any notice, like small brushes and grass, but not trees probably.Although,if we can cut them, probably they ARE respawning so why not burn too?
As for destroying rocks, that'd be sweet too and since mining is in...LOL,I don't think this crafting works the way I think it will XDDDD

At this point, it's impossible to be sure what the extent to which spells can affect the environment will be. Obviously, there will be limits, I certainly don't expect to see fully destructable environments, freezing water... maybe, actually, it could probably simply be done by creating a layer of nice within a certain area on top of water, though realistically, it should take into account things like how fast the water is moving, if it is, if it were done. As far as destroying rocks or similar objects, allowing select objects to be destroyed probably wouldn't be that hard, the easiest way to do it would be programming certain objects to break in a predefined fashion if they're hit by strong enough attacks. Realistically, a certain level of force would need to be required as you probably aren't going to break a rock by hitting it with a dagger. Of course, it really depends on what Bethesda wants to do, just because it would be possible to do something doesn't mean it will be done. Though the tuff about burning the surroundings seems to indicate that Bethesda is at least interested in making the environments more interactive.

I voted I dont care because I found the options very unrealistic, and seeing so many people voting for them just confirms that there is a lot of people here hoping for TOO MUCH. This is Oblivion all over again: people are just ASSUMING THINGS (like freezing water), and when the game comes out, start spamming the forums and damning Bethesda for "lying" about interactive environments, when in reality it was just a stupid assumption in the forums.
