Vault 59 was one of many vaults made by the Pre-War American government. Construction began in 2062 and ended in 2076 in Northern Florida. Like the majority of the vaults there was a experiment going on in the vault. This vault had the experiment of how people improvise when problems are pitched at them. Many things were intentionally made to break after a few decades. There were no replacements to anything in this particular vault . Fortunately for the Vault 59 dwellers, only non-essential things broke by the time of the Vaults opening in 2179. They sent out a party of people to scout out the wastes and possibly start a new town to live in. Along the way they may come across certain creatures and peoples like: bands of raiders and slavers, townsfolk, Rangers, the mutated GECK, hostile wildlife, and mutated peoples such as: Another type of Super Mutant, Ghouls, Troglodytes, Pyshkers, and Spore Men.

"Right, well this is quite an awkward problem we have in front of us, you see I didn't select you six for nothing. The vault is intended to open in a few weeks and we don't really know what the outside world is going to be like. We're not sure if the outside world is going to be tropical as the 'Preparing for a New World Again' video states. Quite frankly, I have not the slightest clue as to what we're dealing with. That's why I want six of you to scout out and see what locations are ideal and which locations to avoid. One of you must come back to give me a report on your findings each week. One of you could get hurt or even killed. Right well, enjoy your last night in the vault. I almost forgot to tell you all, the weapons from the vault armory are available to you on request. We have three pistols, one brass knuckled, two baseball bats and two knifes. I know it's not much, but you'll just have to use them. Now go get some rest for the rest of the night."
