Interesting game without OOO and MMM?

Oblivion's problem persists: The world scales with you. I did search for "OOO MMM alternative" but it returned nothing. I haven't ruled out OOO yet. It's just those Spectral Warriors. I hate them and they are everywhere, and I don't remember an option to remove them. Do you have any non OOO / MMM mod recommendations for making the game more challenging and interesting?

It would be nice to have new creatures and:

1. more enemies spawned
or
2. enemies are not level capped

What your looking for is overhaul comparisons.

There are new threads about this on a daily basis. In fact just as I post this there is a thread right below it called any good FCOM replacements? Asking the same thing.

What is not often referenced anymore, but what I still consider to be a good starting point is the thread by bg2408 called: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/820948-scaling-overhaul-comparison/

Which reviews how scaling works in the various overhauls. Some stuff is outdated (likely the links mostly).

To bring it up to date it would need entries for:

That really is a hard decision for me: Get rid of Francesco's so I can use OWC ND or keep frans and install WAC. I was hoping for posters to give me their opinions on what mods they like, but I will have to make my own decision based on what I like because no one is a mind reader. But I think I want OWC ND after looking at so many of its pics. Thanks for the scaling comparison and answering my question.

My current game, started Dec last year, have consisted only of: Frans + tejon's + theNiceOne's + SM's + my mods + other small mods (e.g. bank, Zumb's lockpicking). I understand that this kind-of goes against what everyone seems to like: high spawns and higher variety. But I have enjoyed "the empty world". I treat the game now like the classical medieval world where the population avoids the wilderness. And there are larger tracts of empty spaces between the creature lairs and bandit campsites. And that only a few (my player + soldier patrols), dare venture out into the wilds. (I have to add Arthmoor's villages to that list someday.)

Admitedly, I do enjoy gameplay mechanics mods more than any other types. And there is difficulty without OOO + MMM.

I turned into a vampire at level 1 and so I have 2 vampiric gifts (Frost projection and Fatigue fortify) that are quite powerful when I'm at full strength. But I still find the game difficult due to being limited to the day (when my vampire is weak), Attributes and skills damage modifiers, slow progress from tejon, Death penalties, eat and sleep requirements, and less encounters (no extra spawn points), and the few encounters sometimes run away - so I have less combat time. Though, I've not been able to play as much as before, I still think that I've put a lot of hours into my game. But my character is still only at Level 11.

You are a role player and enjoy the challenge of survival. I also loved Oblivion with Attribute Based and Skill Based Damage Modifiers. It made the game deadly and I gladly died many times from underestimating the enemy. I also used it with OOO and those Spectral Warriors were a constant thorn at my side. And there was this vampire boss who had an insane debuff from his presence, and I believe he was guarding that sword that gets stronger as it kills... Dawn something. Light of Dawn, I think.

I wouldn't know how the attribute based skilled based mod would work with Duke Patrick's Melee Combat No Recoil and Combat Archery because I have not tried combining them. But since I am at level 4 the game has become easier and an increase in damage might be needed again. Because I am not dying.

Well all these hard choices haven't been an issue for me - at least not in the last year. I've not tried DLL yet. With as many issues as I can have in just one play session (and why you might see me rapid fire problem reports in one night) DLL seems like something I would probably find too frustrating to deal with.

this though:
I wouldn't know how the attribute based skilled based mod would work with Duke Patrick's Melee Combat No Recoil and Combat Archery because I have not tried combining them. But since I am at level 4 the game has become easier and an increase in damage might be needed again. Because I am not dying.

Not a great idea since they will be doing double duty on scaling the damage formula. Most all the comments that Kuertee has added to the mod description at Nexus are still very valid - you will get exponential deadly levels where even at 10% difficulty slider you are being one shotted with every encounter.

I've not touched the OWC ND one in a while. it needs more work and focus I think (the install I mean).

I played a bunch of Nehrim last week this week it was getting my TIE+Frans+Wac going with a new magic using assassin.

Saving the FCOM one (with the level 27 Nord paladin) for DarkRider's epic mod.

Tonight though I played Battlefield 2 on evil, evil STEAM (I guess I alternate my principles too).

I'm fairly lucky with my work and current living situation - I get a fair amount of time. then work kicks up again and a lot less. I do get a certain joy of accomplishment in making long load orders that work -- so that is part of it.

Was thinking of making a new clone for SoVvM - with bare minimum load order just to check it out.

I just checked out the website for OWC-ND. Wow, this mod is like a mish-mash of anything and everything. First impressions by looking at the pics on nexus: Not very lore-friendly - serial killers? Frumpy wigs on counts/countesses? Angel bosses with plasma weapons? A hybrid shark-camel? Vendetta V guy Fawkes? Too zany and bizarre!

One thing about OOO, and FCOM is that it does not go overboard at any time!

Maybe that's a good thing. Oblivion distributes oceans of health to your foes as you increase level. At level 30 I will be up against goblin warlords and gloom wraiths with over a thousand health. Shoving that difficulty slider all the way to the left will increase the damage I deal and lessen theirs might simulate them having less health, or I make a quick .esp to tweak the fDamageWeaponMult setting and load it after those mods. This is my hasty theory that I won't know is good or not until I try it. Anything to make combat deadly again and get around that enemy health pool at higher levels. Also, Deadlier Creatures to allow certain creatures ( wolves, minotaurs, xivilai ) to attack while running and get their running bonus.

If they both do the same thing then why use both?

The focus is different - Kuertee's mod scales while Dukes is more all at once deadly.

But they do so much the same - I see no reason to have both.

and yeah OWC ND is not a lore mod.

TIE, with whatever addons (i.e., other unrelated mods) you might fancy.

That is my suggestion, should you indeed be looking for good alternatives to OOO.

Yeah. OWC ND looks very hostile towards other mods and its comment section is replete and gorged with unanswered problems. I did look at TIE and decided to download it so that I at least have the option to try it. Dynamic Leveled Lists and WAC are looking really attractive to me. Have to drop Combat Archery for now, as the aim has gone absolutely insane with a mind of its own. Never had a problem with Kuertee's damage modifiers.
