An interesting stipulation about TES lore

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:12 am

Do you/we, the players and those interested in the lore, have a tendency to draw connections and connect dots that the writers and devs and never even thought of? I get that impression when reading through this section of the forum and I love it. I myself don't know all the aspects but have a fairly firm grasp of the lore, but I love having my mind blown with someone's new ideas about lore I see almost everyday here. I wonder if the devs take any of this into account when they are making the games to expand the lore. It seems like the lore evolves more among the community than it does the games themselves as the community are constantly coming up with new theories and explanations.

I have no idea how anyone could avoid such a thing. I've been here on and off since 2002, and I think a lot of the discussion is exactly that.

I wrote a book for a roleplaying game with several disparate pieces of information that I had in mind as being related in a particular way. One fan took that material and came up with an entirely different conclusion that I hadn't even considered. The only frustrating part about that situation was that he insisted rather adamantly that his interpretation was the only possible interpretation that made sense, which was patently ridiculous. But I mean this sort of thing was not an isolated incident, people do it all the time. It's one of the things that makes forums like this fun. :)

Happens all the time in the real world.

It's why people used to think earthquakes were caused by the world being on the back of a giant turtle.

Nah, turtles all the way down. But back then people only used to think that, they didn't know.
