An interesting thing I thought of... *Spoilers*

*Skyrim Spoilers*

So the end of Oblivion, Akatosh or his "avatar" appeared and banished Mehrunes Dagon back to Oblivion and somehow fixed the barrier to Oblivion. But, in Skyrim Alduin a.k.a. Akatosh is the main villain and will supposedly cause the apocalypse. I thought it was a bit ironic that the savior of last game is now the villian of this game.

Also aren't the nine divines, sort of... dead? How is that Akatosh in manifesting in Mundus? Maybe it's just a super dragon that people think is god.

Alduin is sort of... schizophrenic. Alduin is indeed a God, due to the fact that he wanted time to exist in Mundus, and so it happened. He is limited in the things he can and can't do, but those aren't anything to snuff at.

They aren't the exact same things, since gods are shaped by the mythopoeic forces (beliefs) of mortals. In the same vein, they aren't really dead since mortals believe (and since its kind of hard to kill a god/planet/force). There have been numerous threads on the issue, here's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1244133-alduin-akatosh/.

In Oblivion Akatosh was making good on his deal with Alessia to keep out the Daedra.

However Akatosh is the dragon-god of time, maybe theres some sort of the world HAS to end now things we dont know about.

After at least 3 Dragon Breaks, several universe bending magic items being destroyed, and mortals rising to the place of Daedra lords, maybe the space-time continuum of Mundus is so messed up its time for a reset.

"You stupid little f*cker, do you even know what would HAPPEN if that happened, my dying and being unable to eat and the kalpa left to run forever? Why do I even ask, you who are a little low spirit whose only real power is jumping around? It is the Greedy Man I should really be mad at!"

Remember, lore-kiddies:

When the dragon dies, the Empire dies

what's more, TES ontology is a two-way street, or rather a very sensitive weight-and-counter-weight pulley system simultaneously hoisting and lowering the protean, double-faced pre-conscious idea-forms which give shape and girth to the cosmic superstructure. One little tinker, just a tiny dikeying or shimmying down the line, and the whole system changes, the initial and residual shockwaves radiating out in a frustratingly helical Ouroboros-pattern which makes discovery of the root-cause near impossible; It would appear that an effect was the cause of its own cause.

It's enough to drive a time-god crazy...

Case in point: Aka, the guarantor of the Empire, is loosed, which causes it to crumble. In-tandem, or rather along a chiral causal-thread, the empire crumbles, which causes Aka to be loosed.

All in all, it's vicious cycle.

The time dragon died. The empire made a puppet out of his corpse, and used it to defend themselves. The nords made a scarecrow from its corpse, and used it to endanger themselves.

The nords are the crows. People want to scare themselves away from stuff. Nords love life, and everything in it. What would life be without fear?

Seems a bit odd how simply believing a being will destroy the world could actually bring about the world's destruction.

Things get stranger: the Skaal believe the world-devourer will be in fact Lorkhan, whom the Nords revere as Shor. And MK has said that the Eight and One have always ensured that Alduin can be stopped.

Lorkhan is Akatosh. And MK also suggested that Akatosh could attempt to stop Alduin.

So Akatosh is Alduin is Auriel is the Adversary is Lorkhan is Shor is Shezarr? I do recall the Anuad saying that Aedra are a mix of Anuic and Padomaic.

So he is going to stop himself.

Why are we needed again?

We're his instrument.

Or Shezarr/Lorkhan/Shor will. It's sometimes difficult to tell the difference between Aka and Lorkhan.

Some sources show Shezarr giving Alessia the Amulet. Since Dragonborn are apparently connected to White Gold, this would associate both gods with Dragonborn. Shor apparently has a "scaled mane" as well.

I hope Dovahkiin isn't Akatosh, to be honest. I hope he mantles something, but no incarnation please.

If Dragonborn are incarnations of Akatosh, then he seemed to have no issue breaking himself with the Numidium.

I heard that you may end up being the reincarnated Tiber Septim/Hjalti, but we won't know until 11/11/11.

Well let's say that Akatosh really did help Martin defeat Dagon, I don't think he did it for anything other than his own reasons. If Dagon succeeded in destroying everything he would revert back to the Demon Leaper King (speculation) and therefore continue to hinder his world ending dinner ;) who knows what would happen to space, time, ect.
Apart of me thinks that either the Avatar of Akatosh was actually Lorkhan's assistance or because of the power of mortals' beliefs. In the ES universe beliefs become reality, Martin believed that Akatosh would save them, so because of his belief, he really did.
Sorry if this is unstructured, long day at work. Hope everyone got the point though haha
