Interesting Word Wall Translations

Post » Sat Apr 13, 2013 1:29 pm

Well as we should Know by now, Word Walls are ancient Nordic Burial sites for the people (or even animals) of Skyrim.
I was on UESP just looking at all of them an found interesting, and even decently funny ones I wanted to share with people

First one, Word Wall for Elemental Fury (Su)

Dragon-Language:
HET NOK FJOLDMOD BeiN-SU WO
PooK OL POGaaS NAU GOL OL
OK KOPRaaN DREH NU KO GOLT.

English:
Here lies Fjoldmod Foul-Air who
stank as much on earth as
his body does now in (the) ground.

(Lol, Seem's like a bit of a joke from Bethesda, because I'm not sure why this person would get a giant grave dedicated to them, unless he was a Hero and people just screwed his grave over :D)

Word Wall for Slow Time (Klo)

Dragon-Language:
HET Mah SahROT
KONahRIK aaBAN
KiiN SE KLO SE ALIKR
PRaaN NU DENEK KeiZaaL

English:
Here fell mighty
Warlord Aaban
Child of (the) sands of Alik'r;
rest now in (the) soil (of) Skyrim.

Word Wall for Dismay (Maar)

Dragon-Language:
QETHSEGOL VahRUKIV DaaNIK
FahLiiL KiiR DO GRAVuuN FROD
WO BOVUL KO MaaR NOL KINZON
ZahKRii DO KRUZiiK HOKORON

English:
(This) stone commemorates (the) doomed
Elf children of (the) Autumn Field
Who fled in terror from (the) sharp
Swords of (the) ancient enemy

Word Wall for Frost Breath (Krah)

Dragon-Langauge:
HET NOK BRIT KaaZ ANURASSA
WEN FaaD NIS KOS EVENaaR
ORIN NaaL KRah DINOK

English:
Here lies (the) beautiful Khajiit Anurassa
whose warmth cannot be extinguished
even by cold death.

(I found these ones interesting by seeing that the Ancient Nords weren't so discriminatory towards race back then as the Nords seem to be now, and that some of them get their racial tension Idea's from the Ancient Nords such as Ysgramor. but you can see the diversity of races they buried in Honor as if they were one of their own )

Any of you're own thoughts on these?
or other ways to keep a going thread, Look for your own Word Wall that Interests you, or even just discover what the Word Wall even said for your favorite shout

That's pretty cool right there.

That just goes to show that Bethesda didn't just throw some words characters together, but they built the basics of a written language. However, there doesn't seem to be much in the sense that there is proper sentence structure. Instead it seems to be just modified english with a few conjunctions taken out.

Whirlwind Sprint, second word (Nah).

Noble Nord, remember these
words of the Hoar Father -
Oblivion hath no fury like
[a] shield maiden scorned.

:D

Edit: Oooh, second word of Kyne's Peace (Drem);

Noble Nords remember these words
of the hoar father: Pray
not for peace, for such is
(the) wish of (the) weak and cowardly.

The Nords were an honorable people who spoke in Draconic in the good old days of Atmora. Skyrim and the Mer... changed them. Corrupted them into savages. They set aside their true God, Alduin - son of Akatosh for a bloodthirsty deity personified as man.

My personal favorite,

"Here lies (the) body of Bard
Romerius who tried (to) run from some
Goblins but slipped"
