Interesting Xbox 360 S problem

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:34 pm

So my friend bought one new from Walmart and he got it home all excited and was ready to transfer his info to his new HDD but it apparently didn't come with a HDD. The box says 250gb HDD but it just flat out doesn't have one. He looked in the console and it was empty and in the box and there was no HDD. Is this a Microsoft fail? If so what is the best way to resolve it? Return it to Walmart who will most likely suggest he stole the HDD or contact Microsoft?

He's going to try and return it today to walmart anyways, but has anybody ever heard of this happening?

Return it to Walmart. Are you sure he didn't get the Arcade Edtion? That one doesn't come with a HD.

Where on the box does it say it? On the side? I believe there is 2 or 3 columns for that. Acarde version and HD version. In the old days it was for different edtions. So does it say
Aracde anywhere on the box?

Looks like he got the one with 4 GB flash storage instead of an HD. It has space for an HD for use in the future.

The box said 250gb HDD not the "Arcade" version.

It didn't even have 4gb of flash storage. He tried to recover his gamertag and it said there was no storage device.

He needs to return it for a new one. When I bought mine, the HDD was already in the slot for it. If that slot is empty then MS messed up when they packaged that one.

Small error.

You can bring it back to Walmart. Just explain the situation. I would first just tell em its missing components, the hard drive, then if they dont believe you you tell em how it does not even have the 4gb flash storage device.

Actually, if he does bring it back, just see if he can just say its missing components and see if he gets hassled. I'm interested in their customer service. A manager will end up getting involved. Video games, software and hardware is funny business.

He's doing it right now, I'm interested as well. If he gets hassled at all he's going to bring up the fact that he bought the two year extended warranty. Why would he waste his money just to rip off a HDD.

Well he doesn't need to return it, but exchange it. So Walmart should give hime the exhange. I can't see why they wouldn't. Please let us know how it goes.

The Walmart product protection plan?

The product was defective. It had missing components, clearly. Doesn't need to mention the protection plan.

Also, do you know much that product protection plan cost?

Hello all I am the friend that bought the Xbox without the hard drive. I called Walmart because it is snowing like crazy here and I didn't feel like driving there for no reason. So I called them and explained to them the situation, the guy I talked to had to ask his manager and he told me that I could not exchange or return it to Walmart, but instead I have to contact Microsoft. So I emailed them a few hours ago and hopefully I get some sort of feedback, although I have come to the conclusion that I am going to end up paying another 60$ for a hard drive from ebay.

Why would you pay for a hard drive when you already bought an xbox that came with one.

And, Walmart can take the Xbox back.. and then they can leave you a happy customer and they deal with Microsoft.. I would have made my mom bring it back.

Know the console has a serial number, the hard drive and other components have serial numbers. Microsoft should be able to sort it out.

I dont blame the Manager for not wanting to take it back, low to no profit on a console, and you'll be back just to buy games, low profit to a loss on games.

But yeah, you should tell you mom to bring it back with the receipt and ask for an exchange.

I am going to buy a hard drive if I cant get this situation fixed between Walmart and Microsoft cause if I don't then I have an Xbox with no hard drive not doing anything...kinda stuck buying one if both Microsoft and Walmart screw me. I plan on walking into Walmart tomorrow with the Xbox and seeing what happens, and seeing what Microsoft can do whenever they get back to me.

You should get an old lady you trust to go exchange it. Manager might not wanna look bad for causing a hassle for an old lady to deal with MS and whatever else is involved. Did you call Microsoft? I'd call em right now if you have the time. Keep the reference number.

What they say on the phone is phoobar. They have to take it back. They HAVE to exchange it for you. It says so on their sales reciept. The manager is being a dike and think he can get away with it. Get your Mom or Dad exchange it for you. Also contact Microsoft and tell them what Wallmart said. I will bet they will say they have to exchange it for you.

It says in the xbox manual that to report an issue with the xbox don't contact the store you bought it from but Microsoft. Microsoft would defend walmart in not letting him return it if contacted. Also, why does everybody suggest an older person returning it... Doesn't that seem... Childish? He's a grown advlt, not that anybody knew that but still...

LOL see the interent, well, I guess we all thought you guys were young LOL. Sorry about that. When ever I have problems I always take it back to the store, even Wallmart, even when they said inside the box not too. According to Wallmarts return policy, at least in Canada, we can return everything we have bought. Yes condtions arise, like never been open, orginal packaging still intact. Also if opened, then a straight exchange only is allowed, which according to your grown up friend, should be honoured.

So it all depends on which Walmart he bought it from and what thier terms of return is.

This, the sales contract is with Walmart, not Microsoft, which means that it's Walmart's responsibility.

There should be no issues with returning it to Walmart and getting a new one, if I've learned anything from my dealing with Walmart, its that you can literally return anything without much hassle.
