Also, I don't know anyone in real life who likes TES games, or any who have even heard of them.

I facepalmed when I heard some guy at work talking about Oblivion it was most likely his first RPG... "You get to play a completely different person"

Who I am in the real world is not even close to what I am like on these forums.

I have been on these forums for nearly a year now, and I notice the difference between myself in the real world and the forum world, and to be honest, I prefer my forum self :P

Online, especially in party chat with my friends, I'm a lewd, foul-mouthed misogynist, always making terrible jokes, usually either sixist, racist, or morbid, or a combination of those, because it's all in good fun. In the real world, I still make jokes, but limit it to the last type, mostly, only occasionally delving into the realm of women jokes. A lot more people love abortion jokes than they do of women-hating jokes, I guess. Dark comedy is where I'm at, always sarcastic and ironic. Hell, I love calling people out when they improperly use the term ironic, just to make an [censored] bag joke.

Edit: In terms of this forum, I can put my thoughts into type unbidden. In the real world, I have trouble holding complex conversations/arguments, because I stumble over my words a lot, so a large portion of my vocabulary never gets used. And when it does, people either laugh or they don't get it, and then they laugh. So I stick to everyday vernacular to maintain my friendships and acquaintances.

I just searched for my username on google, there are two other solid_mooses out there, one on Ebay, the other on PSN, but neither are anywhere near as notable as me :D
I even found a couple articles with me as a contributer :celebration:

I'm pretty much myself on the net, except more people comprehend what I'm saying than outside. I can manage my tendency to drift off talking, sometimes mid-sentence. Not good when you speak to someone official, let me tell you that. ^_^

Though, in the beginning of my time actively spent on the internet... Why, some eleven years ago, I when asked pretended to be what about everyone else was. You know, Y chromosome, that stuff. Just to not be the center of attention. Nowadays that's no longer a problem, only maybe in smaller and much more nerdy communities.

My alter ego pissed off the community he created, and practically trolled them all before he kami-kaze everyone. He did it twice.

I'd hazard a guess that I'm more well-liked in reality than I am here. Since I don't actually know any of you personally I tend to be more outspoken on certain topics than I would be in real life, and I think I often come across as a jerk. My posts tend to be short and to the point here, whereas I'm much more outgoing and talkative in real life - I suppose the two personalities have almost "switched" over the past four or so years, now that I think about it.

I'm extremely sarcastic in real life, but here, meh. Maybe because the people in real life are dikes and you lot aren't. I've even made some good friends here. :)

in reality im real quiet(strong silent type, no joke) i keep my thoughts to myself and rarely share anything with people ive met

on the net i feel like i can express myself, say the things that come to mind...on the net im far more outgoing, on the net i have a clean slate

I've been considering the idea of personas a lot lately after meeting someone once and then finding out that it was basically all an act and their real self was completely different. I felt rather blindsided and a little let down - although both "personalities" - the real one and the fake one - are very charming.

As far as I know, I'm not putting on any act online. I might use various usernames across the internet but they're all me, and I'm not conscious of ramping up any particular part of my psyche.

I suppose the only thing that doesn't come across online is that I'm quite "sweet", as in, "dawww, you're so cute when you're angry" (which is what my husband says to annoy me). I'm not sure - I mean, none of us know ourselves that well - but my sister-in-law once told me there's "no side" to me; what you see is exactly what you get.

I act the same. One question that did come to mind as a result of this thread is the expression "real life" or "real world", as if this is not the real world and some sort of fictitous universe in itself. Which in itself asks, to what degree?

I suppose I'm different here than in real life. I feel like I come off a little more cynical, or harshly through text. I don't like it very much but it's tough to change.

Urge is almost exactly like me, allthough Urge has a bit more restraint and can look at things objectively and reasonably to a larger degree than the actual me, I tend to think things through much more when I'm writing here than when I'm talking in real life, the advantage of a forum is that I have time to consider what I post.

I'm mostly the same. I spam more in real life, though.

It was a noob, and itwas in mid '08 when my avatar was http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr212/Qeros/ICON0.jpg but it still hurt. Actually, his name had those xX Xx that yours has, but I don't think it was you.EDIT: It was this guy: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/475117-xxhavokxx/

Guys reminiscing about that one time years ago when they were mistaken for a girl online, now that's just adorable. :D

I'm not reminiscing, I'm still pissed off about it. What did I do that was so girly?

Fewer people know me here than in real life. ;) Apart from that I'm the same.

I know people who have created entire characters online - must be hard work I always thought.

This one time, I was searching for stuff about matchlock firearms, and I was reading something, that, after two paragraphs, it turned out I had written.

Another time I read the phrase "turns the page of history" in a HG Wells book and it just leapt out at me.

I'm not really a vodka drinking gunslinger

... I don't even have a revolver

...

(I use a rifle :P)

Meh I'm more of less the same, I am even more polite online (I don't like telling people off online... I'd rather do it to their face) and I'm a little more talkative.

So let's talk alter egos and internet identities. Is your forum persona really 'you', or a watered down version? Did you strive to be someone cooler, better looking and smarter than you are in real life? Will I regret posting this tomorrow morning?

I am not creative enough to cultivate an alternative personality. Nor am I consistent enough to maintain it.

What you read is what you get with me.

I'm very bad with people in real life. Here, I feel more at ease, and speak my mind more often. And I think I make the concious effort to lie more in person, so I guess one could say I am more honest here, albeit in the manner of truth by omission of lies.
