Internet Required? (PC)

Post » Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:33 pm

Seeing as Steam is required, is it impossible to play without an internet connection? I'll be moving shortly after the game is released, and I expect my internet to be down for a week or two. I wasn't dreading it seeing as I would have Sjyrim to play, but now I don't know what I'll do. I think it's stupid that an offline single player game should require an internet connection to play.

There is a one time activation which you have to be online for but from then on you can play in offline mode. :)

The game will require one time activation, then you can remain offline.

Until some variable flips, and Steam starts asking you to log in for an update.

then you just skip steam and launch it from the folder, you can launch a game without launching steam

I've had this happen to me, it was the most obnoxious thing ever. Because of course, if for whatever reason steam thinks it needs an update, or one of your games does, you cant do anything or play any of it until its fixed its self... And of course it'll never happen until that time you have no internet for an extended period of time.

I'm sure theres ways around that though...

Has never happened to me from the 4 years I've had Steam installed. I would game offline a lot throughout those four years.

It`s funny how everyone on teh Internets thinks that the rest of the world is on it as well. In fact it`s less than 30%.

Steam can only enter the mode "I need to be updated!" when it knows there's a update. If there is no internet at all, it just cannot find that so there's no risk.
