Interplay should drop the MMO project...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:51 pm

With it probably being set for release around the 2010-2011 area it will come up with serious competition. Mainly the new Star Wars MMO and the next Blizzard MMO set for release around those times, which will dominate the market. WoW has over 10 millions players and i havnt seen 1 who isnt excited about the next blizz MMO.

IMO ALL MMO's should just stop, until they actually make Quests to follow, rather than the cop-out "Kill 5 of these and 12 of these"

The only time I had fun in WOW was doing the Legend of Stalvan quest, Missing Diplomat and the Abercrombie quest, but IIRC they still managed
to work in some "Kill 7 of these, and 9 of these" during those

in MMOs, kill # this, collect # this kind of quest will never go away. It's quick, cheap, and hella easy to spam. If you actually work on the quests you make like
you have to sneak past some guards and put in rat poison in the nuka cola bottles of some big shot raiders then wait while they kill themselves,
quest involving sneaking into a B.O.S. base with 3 possible ways: bribing the guards, killing the guards, or turning the guards against each other with a well placed shot, and stealing some insignificant tech (so it doesn't mess the story up too much) and returning it to some opposing faction,
Finding and tracking down a person with stolen B.O.S. tech on a high speed chase in the streets of New Arroyo knocking over stalls and pushing peasants out of the way Assassin's Creed style to be initiated into the Brotherhood of Steel after which you take more quests to advance in rank such as
Going out to retrieve some parts from a trader who you're supposed to meet at the Hub but has gone missing so you have to find him in a Slaver camp where you again have 3 or more ways, bribing/talking/whatever, killing, or some clever way like taking all their supplies and putting them in a tent rigged with explosives then saving the trader who gives you the parts and some schematics for some interesting weapons that you can use later on or something and you become a knight,
Play some stupid minigame where you match some parts together to make weapons and fix armor and take a quest to retrieve some power armor from a dead paladin in some place where you meet some people who don't want to give the armor away and once again you have several methods to do it, so you get the power armor and return to get promoted into a paladin
Do some kill # this quest except you have to go to a bunker and fix some robots and turrets (and recruit some mercs if ur rich or charismatic) to defend against some tech hungry raiders.

What you guys dont understand is that people dont mind those quests. Look at WoW which is filled with them, that game has 10 million addicted players. I played WoW for over 3 years and i'ts probably one of my fav games of all time. The kill x quests and all are only basicly to do with leveling. It's a new game when you reach end level and do raids etc. Warhammer Online is looking to be really good also, a big step up on the fun factor from WoW.

If I did actually want the Fallout MMO, I'd buy it. I just kinda hate most MMOs... Fallout should never be counted out, just look how well FO3 is doing with games like Gears 2, Resistance 2, LBP, and Far Cry 2 coming out.

WoW is popular because it caters to the casual and idiot player base. It has an amazingly simple interface that even a child could learn to use (and they do). The addition of well fare epics of the badge gear/pvp purple and the daily quest that let you farm gold with ease just further proves the point.
I slaved for hours after BWL farming the demons in winterspring for eyes of shadows to make my epic mount money pre expansion :P.

I will give it to you it is a fun game for what it is, but there are still legions of more "hard core" not so casual players who will always be looking for something more.

When was the last time we heard about this anyway? 2006? Also I don't even remember this being officially announced, only a rumor, but if I'm wrong please provide me with the official press release as I can't find it.

The first two years of EverQuest still gets my vote for the best MMO experience ever made, but then again, it's never been about graphics or entitlement for me. I realize I'm in the minority so I'll stop the tangent there.

Re: a Fallout MMO, curiosity would certainly drive me to try it, but let's face it, the MMO market is already too saturated. It would need to be an unbelievable experience for people to consider it a success, given the things we've already seen in the golden age of EQ, WoW, etc.

My favorite quest would have to be the one in The Burning Crusade where your walking around on a mountain side blowing a whistle so a felboar can come and dig up Tubers for you. After about the fourth one it just hit me I was actually paying to play a game where I was spending time to hunt tubers with a bunch of pigs. Needless to say I had a good laugh.

Also I think someone at Blizzard might have a scat fetish <.<

I was more into DaoC myself, but yeah ;)

I've tried a few of the new MMO's like LotR Online and AoC but they kinda svcked in comparison to WoW.

Play more MMOs and soon you'll have a pale complexion and your only friends are polygon elves and orges. :P

Still i'm curious to see how the Fallout MMO will turn out be like. I just hope it doesn't kill off any chances for single player-story-driven Fallout RPGs in the future!

It also gave me a horrid case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Forward Head Posture.

Oh the sacrifices we make to adventure in Azeroth.

WoW is garbage. I played it for far too long.

Starwars MMO is a joke.

Fallout MMO would be awesome.

Um... Afraid I'm against it as well. I mean it would be a friggen atrocity if they handled to skil, perk and special system the way Fallout 3 did, HOLY GOD I can tell you than I would condemn that game, DAMN that game to hell and back. But even if they handle the character development system right how are they gonna do the whole system where you're choices affect the wasteland without a series inconsistancy among players? Maybe they can make factions joinable and such and throw in an actual method of war between factions but that's been attempted in the past and it hasn't always worked out so well.

Anyway could be fun but I'd prefer it not to be first person either so maybe that's bad on my part.

We've heard of it pretty recently (although it hasn't been officially announced as Fallout Online, it's been announced as an upcoming MMO from Interplay, who have the Fallout Online license, made by some of the makers of Fallout). It's currently in pre-production.

What wrong with some competition? The thing about an MMO game is that people are suscribed to oldies like ultima online , so the profit isnt mainly on how many players but for how long can we keep them suscribed. MMO games are overcrowded today and will be for a longtime im sure, so the player amount is thinned out over a series of mmo games. Even though one game might hold the most, all the other mmo's have a strong suscriber base.

A fallout mmo will have to be breakthru for me to play it. MMO gaming is truly a grind from hell that makes your butt hurt and sleepless nights waiting mostly for something to happen.
