Intersecting Questlines

Post » Mon Aug 11, 2014 5:09 am

Because this thread is somewhat spoilerish, I put it here. Because I wanted to discuss a conversation I had with my brother. Which was developing the world of Skyrim to be more in depth and fleshed out. One of these ways this could have been done is through intersecting questlines, especially, and specifically with a few of the guild questlines.

For example, The Dark Brotherhood and Vittori Vicci's wedding wouldn't it be interesting if:

The Thieves Guild had a heist going on at the wedding to steal all the richables and then all things go to hell when Vicci gets sacked by some random NPC assassin

Or even, The College of Winterhold, the Eye of Magus, and the Companions:

Isn't the Companions suppose, IDK protect the whole of Skyrim from something like this. It just feels like, "oh no the mages of the college have something very magical going to destroy the whole of winterhold and probably the whole world" It be nice if a few quest the companions spared some time to help the college of winterhold

Or the fact that some of the guilds go through the same dungeons, it be nice to like have a random conversation as a college of winterhold or anyone else, with an assassin or whatever guild member was there at the time.

I don't know.

What are some of your thoughts?

Well imagine for the thief/assassin characters some of us play, how hard it would be to rob the bride and kill her. The thieves #1 rule is you NEVER kill a mark. So, I don't see how that would work. Sure would be interesting but yeah...

I think the Companions should have done something during the Civil War. Unofficially they are sort of like the Grey Beards. They don't necessarily take a side. But they are deeply rooted in the Grey-Mane family which is openly Stormcloak supporting. But think about it. Your siding with the stormcloaks and attacking Whiterun. Where was the Battle-Borns? Hiding under a bed more then likely scared [censored]less and drinking bottles of warm milk to calm their nerves. I think the battle to take or defend Whiterun should have included these two rival families some how.

I said NPC assassin.

Which means this. If you're a thief and you go to the wedding, you'll see a DB assassin there not played by you.

Or the complete opposite if your were an assassin, but not in the thieves guild you'd see a random NPC thief roaming around.

yeah but the wedding only happens if you do the Dark Brotherhood questline.

So say you haven't done the DB questline and your a thief, you go rob the bride and stop an npc assassin. How does that work when later you attending the wedding as the assassin?

Its a neat concept but I don't see how it would work. Unless it was someone else's wedding.

Not really. Because if you go down to the docks near the East Empire company you can here Vittori Vicci say she is preparing for her wedding. So, let's say your Skyrim character has been living in Skyrim for 3 years. It's ridiculous to think the wedding hasn't happened.

My point is to actually make the world alive. To make these events happen no matter what. Her wedding would occur in Skyrim DB or not.

I think its ridiculous to assume otherwise. And that's why Skyrim has no luster. Because everything goes hand in foot with a quest.

The Quet I am proposing is this:

If you're in the thieves guild the mission wouldn't just to steal from the bride, don't get me started on how stealing one thing in a job of a thieves guild is a little silly, you'd still from all the guest. Suddenly the bride drops dead, now you have to get out of there without getting caught.

It adds some kind of urgency. Makes the game more alive. Adds a memorable event.

Because of right now. I have played this game several times and seem to instantly forget some of the questlines because of how boring they are. In Oblivion I remember a lot of quest just because they were so bizarre and memorable.

For example the Who Done it Quest in Oblivion still by far is my favorite quest

Killing a guy by pushing an deer head on him

An in invisible village

the anvil murders

and on and on and on

Skyrim erm...I remember Companions I am a werewolf. That's about it. I have no real connection to the guilds in Skyrim.

well the wedding never happens and that poor couple lead by a dim witted imperial on their way to the wedding will always be wandering about Skyrim lol

I just don't see how the quest could be possible to combine since the wedding only happens if your the assassin.

......That's...ugh what I am talking about.

the wedding shouldn't only happen if you're an assassin. it should happen. No matter.

I don't know if these qualify as "intersecting", but I have had quite a few quests where I was able to accomplish mulitples of them at one location. I have found some of Urag's books when retrieving someone's lost sword, Runil's (is that right Falkreath Preist of Arkay name?) journal at a location that also had something else someone wanted me to fetch for them.

It wouldn't work. We all get what you're saying but it wouldn't work. If the wedding was set for a specific date and it was missable than that would basically cut the entire Dark Brotherhood questline and it would be impossible to complete; should someone plan to join the Brotherhood afterwards or is already in the Brotherhood but has not progressed to that point of the questline.

Many would consider that a load of bull. Now as for myself, I don't deny it would be interesting. It would make the world more alive and add a sense of urgency similar to the original Fallout games (example being: their is a minor quest to deliver this guys meal, and he's not necessarily going to wait 3 months for you to actually feel like doing it, so you have one day to do it or he's just going to go and get his own meal himself).

Unfortunately, I don't think the TES crowd is quite fond of such consequences. Or more so, a lot of people don't like time limits in general.

This, I don't like time limits. heck when playing any game and a timer kicks in, I swear a little and shoulder my way through it.
