Intervention Spells

Post » Tue Apr 13, 2010 1:56 pm

Is there any lore reason given for why there are no Divine Intervention spells in Oblivion? It would seem like Cyrodiil above all other places should have the spell.

edit: Wait, excuse the ignorant...Oblivion DOES have intervention spells, right?

Nope. Gone with the wind.

No lore reason, it's just gameplay. Really, it does have 'em.

Is that sarcasm or does the Mage's Guild actually have magical jurisdiction over the Imperial Cult?

Wasn't levitation banned by the levitation act of 3E421?

Funny...I don't actually remember any Imperial Cult shrines at all in Cyrodill...besides that one in the Imperial City. Unless you count those deserted ruined "shrines" in the middle of nowhere.

There are temples in every town/city in Oblivion, though they are usually dedicated to a particular Nine Divine.

Well, you might argue that they didn't need Imperial Cult shrines since worshipers could go straight to the Temples; whereas in Morrowind there are no Nine Divines Temples/Cathedrals, and thus have to settle for a simple altar in the designated part of the castle... still, that should just mean that the spell would take you to a Temple instead of a shrine like the Almsivi Intervention spell does...

You`ve already got Intervention, Fast Travel. It`s like, all modes of transport bungled into one awesome feature that costs nothing at all.

But you can't fast travel during battles, now can you?

There weren't really reasons given that the spells existed in Morrowind either though, outside of game mechanics. The character chooses when to cast the spell, which is just about the opposite of what an act of God is. Just a bad name for it though.

It depends on the relationship of the local Patriarch to the nearest guildmaster.

The Imperial Cult doesn't exist outside of Morrowind. It would be strange if you did find one of their shrines anywhere else.

I'd say that they probably exist everywhere that the Nine Divines isn't the prominent religion...

Ok, so one other question. Theoretically, could a Divine Intervention spell or scroll take you across the continent if that's were the closest shrine was. Like if you cast an Almsivi Intervention in Daggerfall would it actually take you all the way to Morrowind?

If there are no temples or shrines to the tribunal in daggerfall, then I'd say yes.

slight nitpick: they said Almsivi Intervention. So, unless there were some Tribunal Temples somewhere between in Daggerfall and the closest town to the Morrowind border having a temple, then the chances are pretty good you'd have a nice quick transcontinental journey. Unless that is, that your magickal aptitude and reserves don't play a small amount in the casting of the spell (scroll or not). Else there is the slight chance that you'd end up in the wilderness alone, naked. ;)

Walter:
I pretty much guarantee it that there are times you'll go clear across a continent. Try Divine Intervention in the middle of Black Marsh and see what I mean.

Assuming you'd survive going to the middle of the Black Marsh. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a death wish or you revel in getting all sorts of diseases, getting eaten by Hermaeus Mora knows what, and getting lost because it's so droll and dark?
