Interview with a Hero

My name is Gabriel Taylor. I’m an Imperial, although I have a good amount of Nordic blood in me. I work as a writer for the Black Horse Courier in the Imperial City, the only newspaper in Cyrodiil. I’m sure some of you have read this paper many times and been impacted by its stories. Reading about assassinations and corruption and other workings of this world can have an impact on us, make us feel something. The same can be said for a good book, as books can take us on fantastic adventures to crucial periods in time and weave tales of larger than life heroes. We read books to hear stories in which the hero conquers all, and all is right throughout the land because the newspapers tell a different story.

Too often in this world, there is no hero, and the land is rife with crime and death. The news is too full of murder and tragedy, and we seek sanctuary in these tales of good, hoping, praying that such things could happen in our lives. It is a truly rare thing to find the elements of such a story in our day to day lives.

And yet, that is what I am writing of today. A true tale of heroism, occurring in this very land. I am sure that you have all heard of the Avatar of Akatosh standing petrified in the ruins of the Temple of the One. Many of you know the tale of Martin Septim, rightful Emperor, and the great sacrifice he made for Tamriel. Ye, Martin was indeed a hero to us all.

However, there is another hero in this fairy tale of ours. A hero who emerged from the Imperial Prison to set about the events that would seal the fate of all the land. The very hero who rescued the lost heir from the clutches of Oblivion after Uriel VI and his three sons were killed by the Mythic Dawn. So far, this hero has gone unnamed, yet not entirely unsung. But no longer. I myself have found the Hero of Kvatch. This is the story of my quest for, and my interview, with a true Hero.
