Interview with Larry Liberty

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 3:16 pm

Because I know not everyone checks The Vault and NMA daily, and is thirsty for info, thought I'd post the latest interview here for everyone to get their greedy eyes on. :)

PC Gamer talks to Senior Producer Larry Liberty, and we actually get some new and interesting info in this one: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/24/interview-we-ask-obsidian-whats-new-in-fallout-new-vegas

PC Gamer: General expectation would have it that the dialogue in New Vegas will be a little more involving and complex than that on offer in Fallout 3. Is this a fair comment?

Larry Liberty: I can say that there is considerably more dialogue in New Vegas than Fallout 3, and more overall reactivity. We made a change to the dialogue editor that allowed our designers to create hierarchical dialogues. It would have been impossible for us to write as much as we did had we not made the investment in the tool early in development.

PC Gamer: What are your favourite new items and weapons that we’ll discover in New Vegas?

Larry Liberty: I really like the Ballistic Fist – it’s essentially a tiny shotgun grafted onto a gauntlet. It’s activated by a pressure plate when impacting a target. Perfect for the unarmed fighters among us. Euclid’s C-Finder has the single coolest weapon effect in the game. It’s a space-based mega-weapon that has its own quest line. Spears are really fun for Melee fighters. We’ve added the ability to throw weapons, and in the case of the spear you can literally pin limbs to walls, with or without the victim. If you prefer a more traditional, conventional FPS weapon, the Light Machine Gun is fantastic. It has a high rate of fire, and with the right ammo type can handle most enemies rather easily.

Punch gun sounds great and I can't wait to find out the so-called "coolest weapon effect in the game" that the C-finder has. Wonder if it somehow renders the target unable to use the letter C or any sounds it makes....

EDIT: WOW I am embarrassed for not correcting "Bunch Gun" earlier.

I'm curious of what the "cool effect" from the C-Finder is.It having it's own quest line would make it a very powerful weapon.

So does the C-Finder make a pretty light show while destroying your enemies?

First thing I thought when I read about the Ballistic fist, was that it'd be a great weapon to give Veronica. I do love that unarmed characters are getting more options.

The throwing spears interest me a lot more now, knowing they can pin enemies or limbs to walls or floors.

Also interesting how they have taken steps to prevent players from getting infinite money from the casinos.

The news of new unarmed animations and the inclusion of the ballistic fist just solidified the likelihood of an unarmed focused character for me.

I see you eyeing the thread Mr.Sawyer.
Smiling in your chair while we ponder about this "amazing effect weapon"

Oh, that makes sense. Larry made it seem like a new weapon entirely.

Euclid's C-Finder is the weapon you use to tell ARCHIMEDES-II where to fire.

While fumbling to reload my Anti-Materiel Rifle, I saw Veronica, armed with a Ballistic Fist, go toe-to-toe with a deathclaw. It was like watching Clash of the Titans.

Also interesting how they have taken steps to prevent players from getting infinite money from the casinos.

It wouldn't have been very smart of the casino owner to allow someone to take all of their money. They would have to try and keep some money.

"or offer tribute in exchange for mercy if they lack the resources to resist."

I like this, preying on the weak may have its advantages.

there have some mention in some interviews that if you win too much you get throwed out of the casino.

It's just like real Las Vegas! Casinos love winners! As long as the winners stay and keep playing long enough to become losers, of course! :tops:

Shotgun glove?
...
First weapon in a DLC will be the explode-o glove, when it hits impact the glove releases a mininuke.

I'm not really against it or for it.
Kind of a "meh" weapon for me.
Just seems kinda lazy.
...We do still have to reload the glove... Right?

...Mr. Sawyer, you have given me something to put it my signature space. That sounds absolutely fantastic, and I am definitely arming her with one the first chance I get.

*edit* Huh...now that I think about it, I wonder whether she survived that encounter...

I would guess after each successful hit, yeah, that′s how it was done in Tactics.

I don't know about you but a punch/shotgun blast to the face usually solves most problems. :P

Grenade machine gun and ballistic fist are sounding like the stuff of legends.

I've always wanted to punch someone in the face with the force of a shotgun blast without going to jail. Thanks, Fallout!
