Invalid Product Code

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 5:38 am

Hey guys, I bought a retail version of the game but when I try to install it, steam does not recognize my product code (cd key)! I went to the steam support (via the invalid product code window) and found that product codes should either be 13, 20 or 25 characters long but the code that's printed inside my case is only 24! There were also specific games listed; Fallout New Vegas was listed among them and according to that list a product code for New Vegas should be 25 characters long (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx) whereas my code is missing the final character in the last group (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx)!

This has never happened to me before so I was wondering if anyone got any advice on how to proceed? Do you think this can be solved by contacting bethesda or do I have to return the game completely? I saw their support mail adress in the "Please Read Before Posting" thread so maybe I should try that?

Edit: I have, ofcourse, tried the code several times. I even worked my way through the entire set of characters (a-z and 0-9) in the final position but that didn't work either so my missing character is probably missing on another position (or the entire code is wrong).

That is exactly what you should do. This is a community support forum, not official technical support.

Thanks for the reply, I've sent them an email so I guess I'll just have to wait and see... Though I'm betting they are gonna reply that I have to return my copy to the retailer. It's probably going to take days before I can start playing

Haha. Don't worry, you're not missing much. Unless you like bugs and crashes. :hubbahubba:
