Should inventory pause the game or have it keep going like it would in real life?

Edit: What the last guy said. A yes or no will not answer the question effectively.

I don't mind the game pausing.

Pausing's fine by me. No need for the game to go all hyper-realistic.

I could go either way, but it'll pause, I'm sure.

I personaly think the game should pause when we go to our inventory. Because i sometimes use it as a quick way to pause the game without pausing. And then decide what i'm going to do in tough situations. But. That's just me.

I'd say no (to the pause part of the questions). The pausing in Oblivion made it too easy. I cut myself off from using potions and scrolls /flex. Even though you could hotkey em, when you ran out of the hotkeyed potion/scroll, no worries just tab, pause, use. Meh. I thrive on the OH S@*#! moments.

As for the in-game menu where you go in and look at your inventory, quest logs, maps or abilities, well I think that is the place that you make important decisions and should stop the game while yo do the actual decision, or otherwise it would become bothersome that every time I have to pause the game beforehand and enter those areas after that.

But places like quick access menu, conversations and the like, well, let them be real time.

I'm not sure. Dead Space 2 did a good job with managing your inventory without pausing the game. Unfortunately, unless you can easily and quickly manage your potions and poisons on the fly it could be frustrating. I voted other because I'm not sure. Micromanaging is fun, and evidentially you can look closely at every item in 3d and read information about them. Real time would be neat. Reading a book on a mountainside while the sun is setting, and if you want peace and quiet from the city or monsters you could go to a library. Blacksmithing, enchanting, and alchemy could be animated if done in real time. It's an interesting idea and a risky decision for Bethesda to take.

I voted no because it doesn't help when trying to access your health potions or spells in the inventory that enemies have already hacked me to pieces whilst I was merrily digging through my backpack.

I'd rather the game pause when I go into the inventory.

I was watching Witcher 2 gameplay video, why not have a slowed down environment while the inventory or any popup is out?

I'd rather like the game to pause when I go to my inventory. Give the way time is scaled in the game, a few minutes sorting items, comparing, etc could translate into hours in the game. There's no way I want to me in my inventory, not being able to see what's going on around me, for that long.

It can't be realistic because a large list of items is not a realistic way of going through your inventory as compared to seeing most of your items all at once, only having to search for smaller items. Should keep as pausing which I believe they will.

I don't mind if it pauses the game, but I'd like it if you had to stop fighting to heal yourself, like have to actually equip a potion to drink it rather than hitting a key. Probably won't happen but that would be cool.

I prefer the game to pause. I use the inventory space as a time to plan and think, and I couldn't do that if I had to constantly worry about being killed while I'm thinking.

In my opinion it has to pause. All of the work they are doing/did to make these intricately detailed 3D models? And then not have the game pause so that many times you are hurried and don't take your time to admire their artistry? Nah...keep it paused.

I'm playing stalker cop, and they don't pause the menu. It makes for some tense moments!

However skyrim will have a lot more spells, weapons, potions etc. The amount oftime to just find what your looking for will take too long and you'll be dead. I do like the idea of having those smaller favorite menus realtime. They won't be cluttered, and as long as they are semi transparent and allow us to still move with wsad I'm all for real time in those.

No, it needs to be paused by necessity.

I've played one game that does not let you pause for inventory. In order to use items in combat, you have to attach them to your character's "belt" which appears on the HUD as a vertical column with eight boxes where you can put items and access them with the D-pad (anolog stick is used for movement). However, the game only lets some items go to your character's inventory (healing items, mana regen, buffs, offensive throwable items), while all weapons are sent to an inventory box back at the main camp.

I suppose if you wanted to adapt that to Skyrim, you would assign inventory items to a hot-key bar to use during combat so you don't have to pop open the entire inventory screen while the enemy bashes your face.

This. Though it'd be cool if it didn't pause, you'd have to be careful for Dragons suddenly appearing and slaying you while checking your inventory

I don't think there's a choice you have to have some form of pausing while being in the inventory.
