Invest to Play

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132255-Molyneux-Godus-Is-Invest-To-Play-Not-F2P

so basicly peter molyneux launched a game similar to his black and white game from several years ago, called Godus as an early access game half a year ago. Which i bought, for $20. In the article Peter makes a statement saying that Godus won't be free to play because he thinks that is a disingenuous description of a game that has micro transactions (which Godus has, in the form of typical gems you purchase like in most smart phone games. This is a PC game though keep in mind) which is a fair point. However, where he starts going off the deep end is when he starts talking about what he calls "Invest to play" where basicly in order to progress past a certain point in the game you need to start purchasing gems. so the more you "invest" the more of the game you can play.

Why this is significant, besides peter trying to make his micro transactions not sound like micro transactions, is that he plans to launch the released game for free. Which has pretty much every one who participates in the early access completely regreting having any thing to do with the game.

Ive gone on rants on the forums about how early access gaming has gone down the tube, and people don't really listen so i won't do the speal again. But I will say that i told you so.

I told you so.

It's Peter Molyneux. Nobody should be surprised by this, nor generalize what celebrities like him say or do. What most people fail to realize in the gaming industry is that though companies like EA are seen all over the place, they are a minority of what is out there.

So once again Molyneux is talking out of his [censored]. Nothing new there.

Just sounds like he's trying to be pretenious again and insist that current labels simply cannot capture his genius. Remember how Fable was supposed to be the next step for RPGs in a way that would revolutionise the genre? And instead we got a slightly above-average RPG. Dear old Pete has an ego the size of a mountain and does everything he can to keep himself in the spotlight as a self-proclaimed mastermind of game design.

Get over it Pete. You've made a free-to-play game like everyone else in the world at the moment. Give yourself a pat on the back and go away.

Right. Because what gamers want is an innovation in how they spend money. What an appealing idea.

not where early access is regarded, the majority of them are just blatant cash grabs now and don't even bother to put out a finished product.
