Invisibility spells

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:29 am

Hi.
IF invisibility was bending the light around the caster, he'd be blinded by the spell, right? But that would be Alteration then, right? We propably could have invisibility as in Quake 1, where you saw two eyes floating through the air. That was kinda creepy. That would work with the Alteration invisibility.

So does the invisibilty we have now (as it is Illusion) effect everyone's capability to see you, even if the spell is cast on yourself, not the others... And how? Is the caster made into something that others' visuals or brains can't handle, therefore invisible to them, even if the caster isn't ACTUALLY invisible?

I hurt my braen.

But you see, its magick, meaning that the caster actually is invisible - bending light is for those that don't know magick.

I would say that

Afterall it IS illusion. An Illusion isn't real. People only THINK the caster is invisible.

Questions and comments about the effects of magick always end with a moot point. The best answer to any question like this is "a wizard did it"

You drink invisible. Duh, that's like first grade stuff.

But in all seriousness, that's a really good question, how does a potion make you invisible? Are potions treated as magick?

Uh, yea... plants, minerals and other such things in TES have magickal properties which are temporarily transferred to those that consume them, if you combine them properly then you can make a potion which amplify those properties. What else is there to wonder, its a magick potion...

It's just wierd thinking that something you ingest alters something about you in such large proportions for such a small amount of time. Then again, this is Nirn, so meh.

If anyone knew the secret to invisibility, i doubt that they'd share it on a forum.

Use it to sneak into bethesda HQ, whisper "RPG, RPG" to dev's as they work on TESV

I like your question, but i think magica works best if you don't think too hard on it.

You would need a chameleon spell or potion for that. Whispering will cause invisibility to be removed.

I think the fact that Invisibility and Chameleon are Illusion spells implies that the caster doesn't in fact become physically invisible, but rather creates the illusion that they are invisible.

Rather than bending reality, as in the case with Alteration, Illusion is more about changing how others perceive reality. So personally, I think it may involve something along the lines of refracting light. Refracting light would create an illusion of invisibility without actually altering reality. Or the spell would cause some other kind of "mind trick," so to speak. It'd be entirely more magical than a mere mind trick, of course, but yeah.

At least that's my take on it.

If you get back to Daggerfall, one of the ennemies you could meet were bats. And invisibility fooled them. Since bats rely more on their sonar than eyesight, one can suppose that it works by drawing the observer's attention away from you, working not matter what senses are used. Dogs ans wolves failing to track your smell would point that way too.

Detect life works against that effect because even if the invisibility forces you mind to ignore the subject, it doesn't prevent you from seeing the aura displayed by the spell.

Which brings into question the dwemer automatons or undeads. The constructs don't have a mind to be afected by the spell. We ca nsuppose whatever magical controls their perceptions is affected.

From?http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/dance_fire.shtml,
"The wizard had turned himself invisible, but the swarm did not rely on their sight."
So invisibility does rely on sight, I suppose.

Well yea. The whole point of being invisible is so that people can't see you.

Potions work exactly like the stuff in Hollow Man movie you would think. Expect... The guy was completely invisible, but still could see. How's that?

Why would we think that? That wasn't magic. And why wouldn't he be able to see? :read:

The illusion isn't that the person is invisible, it's that they aren't there at all. It's not perfect and not foolproof, but still pretty effective.

Cause the light also goes through his retinas; they too are invisible. Same with bending the light over the supposed caster; the retinas never receive any.
