Invisibility

Post » Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:53 pm

I was wondering if there's an ability to be Invisible. So far from all of the videos I've seen it seems like this game is in the wake of Team Fortress 2 which is great. If they have at 100% of the abilities in Team Fortress 2 I'm sold.

Also I've noticed that Team Fortress 2 is the only game that makes you collect metal before building a Sentry Gun which is really cool. Is Brink's Sentry gun structure the same as TF2 or is it like Killzone where you sipmly have a set time before the turret is placed.

And oh 1 last question will there be teleporters like TF2

I only ask because I'm interested. I'm not looking for another TF2 just wondering becuase no other game has these abilities. I know Brink brings a lot of things to the genre never seen before though so I'm pumped about that.

Here's the short answer... no. Now for the long answer nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Brink is not a super futuristic invisibility, teleportation, metal collecting like TF2... to build a sentry gun you need to have a part of your skill bar filled. You still have to wait for it to build, it's not instant of course. So sorry to burst your bubble no there is no TF2 invisibility, or teleporters.

OT: free turtle to whoever knows where my first sentence is from.

This game is a spiritual sequel to previous SD games, which TF2 borrowed from heavily.

Take a look at the classes in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars to get a better idea, but to answer your questions, no teleporters or invisibility. Placing Turrets costs skill pips which regenerate over time.

No invisibility.

More akin to Killzone.

No teleporters

It's a shame, because all historians agree that George Washington's greatest regret was not being PERMANENTLY INVISIBLE.

There's no justification for invisibility in Brink, though. In TF2, the Spy has invisibility largely because if he didn't, he would never be able to get into position to perform backstabs, and backstabs are about 2/3 of why a spy exists. Splash Damage's last game, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, had a lot of flanking options in its map design compared to the relatively linear and frontline TF2, which meant that you could put on a disguise and appear behind the enemy without having to spend any time invisible. Furthermore, instant kills are probably not going to be very important, compared to in TF2, because of the narrower range of fighting styles available. (Brink will have a lot of guns to choose from, but no sticky traps, no flamethrowers, no instakill headshots, and medics can't continuously heal, so if you keep shooting the fat guy with the minigun, he will eventually fall down.)

theres also the fact that operatives in Brink get the same guns as everyone else, instead of something underpowered to compensate like most games.

True. Operatives will be just as good at killing you from the front as anyone else, so from a class balance perspective, giving them a lot of help getting behind you isn't necessary.

No read the timestamps I said this one first and I got it from somebody... no turtle for you.

Trying to be serous now...
Brink doesn't need invisibility because this game doesn't have to focus on backstabs like TF2 did... actually there are no backstabs. So invisibility would be worthless.

This is not a scifi game. No to all of your questions.

This argument grows a little weaker when you unlock the Lazarus grenade, which is a Medic item that revives a bunch of allies at a time. Plus, I wouldn't really describe TF2 as a scifi game; it's got gameplay elements that they needed to add some sci-fi to use (teleporter, invisibility, medigun), but sci-fi isn't important to what it is.

Not that I mean to refute your point. Brink is very story-focused, and they'd have a hard time explaining invisibility and teleportation when pretty much all the technology on the Ark is from 2025 or so.

Yea it would be pretty cheap to become invisible. Just think of the spy in TF2 they are fun to play as but when someone else is playing them..... :brokencomputer: :banghead: :swear: :turtle: <-------One of those.

News flash: You're incorrect.

If there was invisibility, there would be a counter-ability for sure (such as thermal vision).
If there was invisibility, it would most likely be done in the modern-fashion Predator-style, which makes you easy to spot while you're on the move.

News flash: such an ability (predator style) would cause operatives to camp with the most powerful close range gun possible, which is something SD has been avoiding.
