Invisible Feet

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:55 am

Okay, so suddenly all the male characters in-game have invisible feet, including both the player and NPCs. What's causing this? I just installed the Unofficial Oblivion Patches but it wouldn't be to blame, would it? Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

If you are using a body replacer for your game, then reinstall it. The UOP could possibly cause this if you forgot that you are using a body replacer when you installed it. Use BOSS to sort your load order.

The only body mods I have running are Exnem’s Female Body Replacer and the Male Hip Fix. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game with patches last night in this order:

1. Install Official 1.1.511 Patch
2. Install Shivering Isles
3. Install Official 1.2.416 Patch
4. Install all Official Add-ons
5. Install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch
6. Install the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
7. Install the Unofficial Official Mods Patch

After that I then installed all my mods and the problem is still occurring/persisting. I have sorted my load order with BOSS too but no go. I was playing the game again and I have now noticed that there is a particular clothing item that is now invisible. It’s the Green Silk Brocade shirt. Whenever I wear it, it’s invisible and any NPCs who are wearing it have invisible torsos/upper bodies.

Also, I’m getting odd crashes occurring through the game every now and then:

1. When I launch the game from the launcher, the game doesn’t start up straight away, i.e. when I click Play – Instead I have to click the Oblivion icon again in the Start menu.

2. Game crashes when exiting the game.

3. Like I said, in-game, Oblivion will crash every now and then for no reason.

Please help!

If you have the Oblivion GOTY edition and install both discs, you will have a version that is already patched to 1.20416, You do not need the !.20416 Official patch installed at all.
There is a mod called Unofficial Patch Supplementals by Arthmoor that fixes issues not addressed by the UOP/USIP/UOMP's by Quarn and Kivan.
Are you using Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM)? This is an invaluable utility for installing mods.
I have some issues with OBMM and the way it does install an OMOD, I have 100 esps that I must install to make my game playable for myself, and OBMM works for me, but I get tired of left clicking to make sure I have all the meshes and textures I know I want to use are installed correctly, and nothing gets overwritten.
After you install Oblivion and the UOP/USIP/UOMP, Then install each mod one at a time and test your game.
You will need a Stock Clothing and Armor replacer(s) for the body replacer(s) you have installed. This should fix the invisible clothing issues, and if you like Exnem, upgrade to HGEC and use Eve for the clothing and armor replacer.
Oblivion can crash because it is a process intensive game. You can lower the graphics settings, play with the distances trees and grass become visible, turn off some rendering options like water reflectrions and shadows to limit how often the crashes occur.
EDIT I am not sure what the male hip fix is for. If you are not running a large amount of mods, the crash on exit can be one bad mod.
You can use Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) and a plugin for OBSE called Fast Exit 2 to fix the crash on exit. Make sure you follow the insctructions in the readmes when you do install any mods.

Invisible body parts are mostly caused by bad textures, and that has nothing to do with load order, or patches (except that UOP's may also provide corrected meshes and textures). The usual problem is missing or bad normal maps for a replacement texture, which can be fixed either by adding the missing normal map, or removing the overriding mesh that's trying to use the bad one.

Same sort of thing applies to purple parts. In those cases it's the diffuse map missing..

Thanks for the replies guys but I actually manage to correct this by reinstalling the game again.
