iPad2 to iPad Air 2 Shows How Poor Shelter Is On Older Tech

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 8:51 pm

My iPad 2 is pretty much wrecked. Loose digitiser, stuttering web pages (though I think this is Apple trying to make us buy the newer models - conspiracy mode active) and games like Fallout Shelter crashing finally made me go out and get an iPad Air 2 today and OMG does it show how far the tech has come after playing Fallout Shelter on it.

I was pretty much groaning at Bethesda with the game crashing so much on my iPad 2 but it's definitely right saying it is designed for current gen. So I'm now also an iPhone 6 user too (up from my 4S).

Oh god... have I really got Fallout Fever that bad that I would get new Apple kit to play a freemium game????

Havn't you heard the news that Apple(AAPL) is secretly giving money under the table to game companies that make game that is addictive enough and will *NOT* run well on old Apple devices like iPhone 4s or iPad 2. The giveaway was part of the Apple maketing promotion to make such old devices obsolete and prompt consumers to buy new Apple device. :)

It is not that par-patched as it sounds. It is not secret and important marketing strategy of PC graphic card vendors like nVidia. They provide money and developer time and maketing resource to game companies that make the latest games that utilize full capability of their the latest and the most expensive products.

That means that my PC with somewhat aging graphic card, which was top gear by then, will no longer support the best quality and latest features of new game and make me pull the credit card from purse to upgrade the graphic card that works perfactly for older games. ;)

I heard that recent sales of the latest Apple iPad series is falling, because the old generation iPad 's are still working great for most purpose of consumers, like web browsing, viewing youtube, e-book reading, etc.

So existing owners of iPad hardly feel some need to buy new, expensive, latest iPad to replace aging obsotete iPad. Old iPad's are simply refusing to become obsolete.

So if I was maketing guy for Apple, It is not unthinkable that paying some "bonus" to game that utilize full capability of their latest hardware offerings.

Well I have played Shelter for several hours while watching TV or listening to the radio and not once has it crashed on me... It did go non-responsive once for about a minute but then started working again. On the iPad 2 I was lucky to get the thing to play for 10 minutes without crashing to tablet-top (can't be desktop without having a PC imho).

It definitely runs a LOT faster too.

I just think that the newer OS is trying to do too many things so older iPads lose out on resources.
