Ironhide Skyrim Mod Post

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 3:32 am

I know this isn't the modding forums, but Skyrim doesn't have a modding section yet... Soooo.. I'll just drop this here.. hopefully move when the modding topic opens.

I wanted to start a post to help me keep going on my current modding project: Ironhide Armory, and to also show off how its going.
I hope to have this mod reasonably ready before the game releases.

Concept images:
Weapons.
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8112/skyrimweapons.png : Dont mind the Glass Polearm.. its horrible and will be changed.
Armor.

Town.

Test Model:
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/2086/axecom.png : Only 2161 polygons. Modeled in 3DSMax, Normal Map and Texture created in ZBrush.

I am hoping to create a small Argonian town North of Riften, nestled into the mountainside.

I am definitely open to constructive critisism.

Cheers!

Glass polearm could be changed a bit imo. Looks a little strange with those pattern-thingies inside of it (hope you know which I'm talking about).
The ebony polearm also looks a bit strange. I'd change the design of that one.
They all probably be a bit longer, just a bit.

Other than that, they look really nice. Good concept art I'd say :)
The dwarven polearm is a very good idea. Keep that one definitely no matter what ^^

yea.. the glass one is going to be tossed.. most of the size problems in the sketches will be addressed when I get to modeling them.. though thank you for your input on that.

Also the Ebony polearm is based off of the Russian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovnya

Nice concept art. But what are you going to do if pole-arms aren't included in Skyrim?

That's the challenge, I will be making new animations for them anyways. One way or another, I plan on making this work.

Best of lucks with it!

I definitly love the argonian armor, the fur coat not so much, seems like it misses something (is it arms? jkjk)... Also, I think the polearms could use some more work, but that has already been addressed by other user. Seems like a project with legs to me, again, good luck with it!

How optimistic of you. Before you start really planing out such things I would like to direct your attention to the Mods that add the missing weapons to Oblivion (including, but not limited to, spears, crossbows and throwing weapons). These are high demand items that everyone and their evil twins wished they had in Oblivion, so you'd think the mods would be popular but are not. Why? Partly (I'll admit) is that people are hung up on the six related mods (why, I'll never know) and, oddly enough, anime adaptions. But it's mostly because work you are suggesting isn't exactly easy.

I'm hoping that gamesas will include more weaponry this time around. If not I'll wish you the best of luck.

Quite true, I've never gotten the appeal of turning everything into an anime anyways.

I took the challenge of making a mod like this to expand my skills in 3D Modeling and animation, and to hopefully strengthen my weakness of drawing by hand and making textures.
I don't expect many people will enjoy a mod like this, either for hatred of the Argonians or the lack of six, but at very least.. it will help fill out my portfolio. :disguise:

There are some good ones, but you have to shift through a lot of silt to get the really good gems out there. But yeah, I understand what you mean and I never understood it anymore than I do the six mods.

Nice concepts dude. Do you have any accompanying notes that'd give texturing some direction, or are you planning to adapt/re-use Bethesda's glass, iron, etc maps for your variations?

Either way, it seems likely that polearms will be included in Skyrim, so the anims will likely already be in place to work from (creating wholly new ones seems extremely ambitious; but I'm a rubbish animator, so perhaps not).

Can we see your previous modeling/animation work somewhere?

Good luck with this, I'm sure adding new weapons to the game won't be a problem, the issue will be adding the animations, the killing blows AND the skill-trees with appropriately balanced perks. Then again you could just categorize the pole-arm as a two-hander and that would solve the skill-tree issue.

Here's hoping the Creation Kit is a lot more flexible with those sorts of things than the Construction Set was.

Never too early to start planning this stuff.

Nice work, looks good man. I plan to mod Skyrim heavily as well - I usually add new spells and factions however, not usually weapons.

First major mod I have planned adds a Vampire Faction, with a quest line to invade and conquer a small oblivion realm.

Some new perks would be fun to add as well, and would be a quickie addition.

Can't wait to download and sack the town. :flamethrower: After all we do need to keep our supply of argonian boots up! No but seriously good work, and we don't know the argonian models yet so isn't it premature to make them armour?

are you going to make your own concept of Shadowscale armors and weapons? they are a faction in Argonia tied with her government I'd love to see what you come with.

That's the wonderful thing about 3D Modeling... even if the end result is completely different.. I can just move the armour around a little to make it fit. Where as when hand drawing, you would have to make a completely new image for each major change.

Hmm.. now there's an idea.. I'll have to think of some assassin garb for Argonians would look like.
What this mod would showcase currently is the non-canon Ironhide Clan which would be one of the major armories of Argonia, with their own armor and weapons(other then the pole weapons already showcased).
Still I could try to add some close to canon armours in as well.

I hope to show you my first completed model for this mod soon.. I'm currently working on the normal map and texture.
