Irremovable Bounty?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 9:08 pm

Long story short, I killed a guard in Dawnstar. My bounty in The Pale is currently at 1040 if I remember correctly.

Every time I go into Dawnstar, I'm attacked on sight. No option to pay my bounty. No option to go to jail. I cannot get back into the city.

So how do I fix this? I heard simply hanging out in the hold will cause a bounty hunter of some nature to come after me, but that hasnt happened. And I've spent a lot of time in The Pale. Any suggestions?

Annihilate them, you already killed one, why stop there? :P

Try casting a calm spell, see if you can talk to the guards that way.

If youre on pc you could try and find the console code for resetting your bounty to 0.

Good luck :)

Have your weapon out when they approach you and then sheathe it, they should simply attempt to arrest you, then.

Regarding this, they will approach you when you're away from civilization.

Basically, if you're near a town or hold, it's going to be the guards who will go after the known criminals.

If you're out in the middle of nowhere, away from where you'd likely find any guards to run into, bounty hunters will be sent after you. He should give you a choice to pay your bounty through him.

ive been trying this with no luck. ive been wandering the pale for hours. my friend had the same problem in the reach. will they not come after you if the bounty's too high?

you have to draw your weapon then sheathe it, they should attempt to arrest you. why they removed the much more precise means of blocking and pressing Y i do not know. if your bounty is really high, you might be able to talk to them, but yours isnt.

of course, half the time i yield and use the thane/ thieves guild get-out-of-jail card, they immediately attack me again, so its probably just broken.

yeah this doesnt make much sense. after hours of wandering i just said screw it and walked back into town with my weapons sheathed. this time they didnt attack me and gave me the option.

go figure
