How can you have faith in their abilities if you don't have faith in their judgment?

Being disappointed in their judgment doesn't mean that I don't trust it. I'm sure that their reasons for not including this feature are legitimate. If they were at a place in production that would be damaged by trying to include this, then, logically, they just shouldn't include it.

I'm always swept off my feat by Beth games; it's an unmatchable experience every time. Things like a lack of mounted combat are peeves at the most, even if they're fairly large ones.

There's so much more I care more for than mounted combat.

Funny, mounted combat was the thing I wanted more than any other thing. Most of the stuff that has been omitted such as skills, classes, combined armor are behind the scenes things that I do not really notice while playing the game. Having to dismount when you get attacked was the most immersion killing element of Oblivion for me. It killed the enjoyment of having a mount in my opinion and made me not want to even use them.

I sure hope Maegfaer is able to mod mounted combat into Skyrim quickly :celebration:

i dont like horses in TES games anyways. If you want mounted combat play mount and blade warband... that game has very, very good mounted combat.

I could easily see how it could be abused, not to mention the fact it would make a lot of the enemies easy to dispatch unless they were able to somehow rip you off the horse. The only enemy that would be dangerous would be any ranged fighters or the dragons themselves.

Meh, it won't feel like elder scrolls, and combat won't be very good unless we add pole arms.
Plus in most games that I played that let mounted combat it feels rather meh, controlling the horse, controlling where you aim, controlling your attacks. Its way easier just to dismount and kill the enemies :P

One of the notable exceptions was Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon. Too much of a hassle, and modders will be too busy with the new sixy demoness race and the new [censored]ty anime armor.

I remember hearing a while back that it was too overpowered, and that is all anybody would do.

if they could of make it work good, look good, and still be balanced, sure
thing. But as many before me has already said, not a big deal. As long
as you can mount/dismount pretty fast. There are several other, much
cooler, things they could of put their resources into than that. Locational
damage being a good example.

Lots of work on that one. Even till now no real horse combat is available with oblivion mods. I am disappointed with no horse combat, even more so with 3rd person only horse riding.

Well DR6 has it, plus there's that other one for mounted spellcasting. It works pretty well, you can still be attacked and your horse or you killed, especially if you don't run down archers before they start taking shots.

I'm probably just not gonna use horses much. I hate having to climb down from my horse to fight, plus that only 3rd person thing makes it an even less attractive option. If there's a speed boost effect like there was in Oblivion, they won't be needed anyways.

I never use mounts that much, anyway, so I'm not really disappointed in the lack of mounted combat.

Mounted combat would have been a lot of fun, then you could have jousting competitions.

As said earlier I really do not think it would fit the Elder Scrolls world.

Mounted combat would definitely fit the series.

You know what doesn't fit the series? Default health regeneration.

The only thing that would of made sense for having mounted combat is archery. Using a bow while on horseback could of easily been added and would of made things attacking you on horseback less annoying if you could shoot em,but IF there was 1st Person view while riding, but theres not, only forced 3rd person >:|

Would have*. Which it would not have- it is far hader to ride a horse with no hands and aim at a moving target while moving. It also even more unbalancing than melee weapons when enemies can't even reach your horse.

There's nothing unbalanced or Oped about mounted combat (with any weapon type), especially if it was its own skill.

Well, the [censored] wi-fi where I'm at just destroyed the 3 paragraphs I just wrote. So let me sum up.

Basically, it's stupid not to have mounted combat. It shouldn't even be a question. It's like not including weapons and armor. Theres no good reason not to. At all. I could have forgiven a lot of Skyrim flaws if this one feature was included.

Oh, I forgot, I'm not supposed to complain about Skyrim, just because it's "technically" going to be the best RPG of the year. Problem is, a company which has seen as much success as Bethesda needs to do more to impress me. I've seen smaller companies do more with less.

Righto. It could be quite easily balanced by:

1. Making 'Horsemanship' it's own skill. If you want to get nasty at killing from the saddle, you have to put the time in - the skills you use on your feet won't be enough.

2. Making Horses vulnerable. This not only balances mounted combat, but makes Horse Armor actually valuable.

3. Making Horses expensive to purchase and maintain. This, combined with greater vulnerability, would make you think twice about every potential encounter. Also, horse thieves.

4. Horse Psychology. In addition to PC skill, make it so that individual horses have be trained to endure the stress of combat situations, otherwise they might spook and buck the rider at the first sign of trouble.

Add in a great chance to be dismounted with a low skill (which you touch on in point 4) and your set.

Wouldn't matter if it's a skill or not, it's because NPCs can't do it that make it unfair. And adding all those things like "horse psychology" would be even more work, which makes it even less likely to be implemented. Horse are already vulnerable. Personally I was fine with what Deadley Reflex did, although I never liked Oblivion itself much.
