[WIP] Irthania - Forgotten Islands

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:43 am

Introduction:
Today I want to present you my project I started in november 2009. I am from Germany so please excuse me for possible grammar or spelling mistakes. I give my best to prevent them.

Irthania
- Forgotten Islands -

Far away from Tamriel there is a new island group - Irthania. It consists of three islands: Sheran, Lorania and Asyndonesh.
All differ in a variety of aspects: vegetation, population, climate, architecture, culture and others. I will release Irthania in three acts.
Each island will be an act and also have its own main quest. First Sheran, than Lorania and finally Asyndonesh.
At the moment we work on Sheran. The work on the other islands is paused.

Backgrounds of the islands

Sheran
Sheran is the island of the dark elves. It consists mainly of desert landscapes and small mountains. In the east is a small river called Tyrh. There are also some oases.Thermonth is the capital of this island.

Lorania
Lorania is the island of the high elves. Dark forests, stunning mountains, golden beaches, winding roads and steep mountain passes determine this island. The capital is Javall.

Asyndonesh
Asyndonesh is the island of the wood elves. In the north are some swampy and gloomy forests. Jungle-like and exotic woods are in the south. Midst of these forests is also the settlement Finareth.

Features
  • three unique islands, including towns, villages, ruins, dungeons...
  • three large main quests
  • many interesting side quests
  • over 400 new NPC's
  • extensive lore
  • a lot of new factions
  • over 700 self-created models
  • new loadingscreens, books and More

Story of Sheran
The guilds of Sheran are in the cold war. The reason was the destruction of an important caravan of the Merchant's Guild. The followers of this faction think that the Archaeology Guild would be responsible for this. An impartial earl asked you for help before the situation escalates. So you travel to Sheran to find out the real reasons for the cold war. In your investigation you come across evidence of a third previously unknown group and your adventure begins...

Status of Sheran
  • exterior ~ 80%
  • interiors ~ 30%
  • main quest ~ 10%
  • side quests ~ 10%
  • models ~ 600 created, more planned
  • loadingscreens ~ 70%
  • esm-/esp-size: about 8.6 MB
  • total size unpacked: about 1300 MB

Screenshots
I uploaded on my german website a lot of ingame-screenshots, concept arts, wallpapers and screenshots of new models: http://moritz-peter.de/irthania/bilder/sheran/ | http://moritz-peter.de/irthania/bilder/lorania/
We do not have any screenshots of Asyndonesh because we did not started designing this island. Later, after finishing the other two islands.

Language and Translation
All the quests, conversations, signs and so on we create in German. After releasing this modification, it will be translated into English. There have been first requests for a translation already.

I'm open to any questions, criticism, suggestions and commendations.

Best regards,
Momo and the Irthania-Team

Lorania is beyond beautiful. I'm trying to find the words but... they don't exist.

If exteriors are 80% complete but work on Asyndonesh hasn't begun yet, does that mean the first release features only 2 of the 3 islands, or does it mean Asyndonesh will be a smaller island than the other two? It's just that I'm really interested to see a modder's take on a Valenwood-esque environment. Especially from a group as talented as this.

The first release features only the first island Sheran. The second release is Lorania and the third is Asyndonesh. With the 80 % I mean the Exterior of the first two islands. ;)

If I'm not mistaken, I saw screenshots of this mod a few months ago on another forum. (Polycount, maybe?) It looks gorgeous! What are your framerates like?

About an year ago the brother of a team member published some screenshots of Lorania in various 3D/2D-forums (e.g. CGSociety).

What are your framerates like?

In most areas I've got about 40 to 50 FPS. The capitals Thermonth and Javall are divided in five worldspaces to enable the best performance.

Lol, I also saw Lorania pics on some CG art forum some time ago! :) Looks amazing, and from what you say seems like it's playable too (performance-wise).

This is by far the most impressive mod creation I have ever seen! I look so much forward to the release (and a new computer, to be able to run it!)

Wow, I didn't even think some of those screens were possible in Oblivion. Amazing job with this project so far! Good luck finishing it, I can't wait to see it in-game.

This mod is looking pretty spectacular. How well does it fit into existing ES lore?

How well does it fit into existing ES lore?

A short summary...
When the imperial hordes invade in the lands of the elves, some of them decided to sail far away. They search for a new land where they can live without any war. One day the fleet discovers a large portal middle of the sea. The refugees entered the portal and found a new island group. They called it Irthania. There the elves have been living for centuries without any influence of the empire.

My goal was to make Irthania as independent as possible of the ES Lore, without large conflicts - the only way for me to be really creative.

WOW. Those screens are breathtaking. I am hugely impressed! If this were a game, I'd buy on the strength of those pictures alone.

If your passion for storytelling is even a fraction as great as the care you've invested in landscaping, this is likely to become my favorite mod of all time! May you prosper in your endeavours.

This weekend I finished designing the village Farah. It is located in the north of the island Sheran on a small bay. The people there built irrigation canols to make creating a plantation possible. Some villagers also deal with building ships.

Also I have modeled a lot of new weapons. In future I will create the animations for the riding lizard and model creatures like snakes, bird creatures (they cannot fly, only walk) or scorpions.

I edited my ShaderPackage to increase HDR Lighting and tweaked my ini-settings. Also I created a new climate for Lorania with different sky.nif and sun.dds's. ;)
